3、 die out. The causes of the massive ext in cti on eve nts are un soughtmystery. These eve nts are not predictable and can happen at any time. Scientists think that some of that started by asteroid pass or volcano corruption. Events like this, can change the global conditions that life depe nds on.On

4、e major exti ncti on eve nt, happe ned about 66 milli on years ago. That eve nt may have been started by a large asteroid that hit the earth. As a result, the dino saurs and about half of the all species on the pla net, died out. Whe n the asteroid hit the earth, it started a cha in of eve nts. A ch

5、a in of eve nt is a series of eve nts lin ked together, like a cha in.These particular cha in of eve nts happe ned over a period of mon ths and years. When the asteroid hit the earth, it caused huge cloud of dust to enter the atmosphere. This cloud of dust blocked the sun and darke n the earth for a

6、 period of mon ths. Without eno ughsun light, pla nts and pla nt-eat ing an imals, quickly died. With the deaths of so many pla nts and ani mals, the food cha in collapsed . This led to the deaths of many more species.Mass ext in cti on eve nts had played importa nt part in the evoluti on of life. I

7、 n fact,some ext in cti on eve nts had helped to accelerate evoluti on. For example, some mammals lived to the age of dinosaurs, but they couldn t compete. When thedino saurs were removed, the mammals were able to compete more successfully. Once they could compete, mammal evolved to a higher state.

8、Without the ext inction eve nt, perhaps we would n t be here today.Scientist estimate that there have been at least 5 massive extinctions in the pass 540 millio n years. They also believed that we had en tered a new exti ncti on eve nt.Species are beco ming ext inct at a much faster rate tha n befor

Human activities, for example, had led to global warming.Global warm ing is the result of an in crease in carb on gases in our atmosphere. These gases trap heat from the sun, so the earth i

10、s getting warmer. As a result, sea levels are rising and weather patter ns are cha ngin g. In additi on, we huma ns are destro ying habitats of many pla nts and ani mals. By growing food, people can spend less time hunting and more time on other thin gs, such as art.The domestication of animals allows people to raise and use animals for food and work. By raise herds of ani mals, such as sheep, people have regular sup

The strength of animals such as horses and oxen was used for work and tran sportati on.The developme nt of tools and mach ines has resulted in a more fashi on manu facturi ng and con struct ion. With better tools and mach in es, works can be done with fewer people and much
