2、rea.mymothersnameisirmahill.sheisalsoafarmerandahousewife.mychildhoodwasoneofalotofhardworkandnotmuchmoney,butitwasoneofsolidfamilyaffection,asrepresentedbymyparents.iwasrearedinareligiousatmosphereinthebaptistfaith,andihavebeenamemberoftheantiochbaptistchurchintulsa,oklahoma,since1983.itisaverywarm
3、partofmylifeatthepresenttime.formyundergraduatework,iwenttooklahomastateuniversityandgraduatedfromtherein1977.iamattachingtothisstatementacopyofmyresumeforfurtherdetailsofmyeducation.igraduatedfromtheuniversitywithacademichonorsandproceededtotheyalelawschool,whereireceivedmyjddegreein1980.upongradua
4、tionfromlawschool,ibecameapracticinglawyerwiththewashington,dc,firmofward,hardraker,andross.in1981,iwasintroducedtonowjudgethomasbyamutualfriend.(转载自http:/,请保留此标记。)judgethomastoldmethathewasanticipatingapoliticalappointment,andheaskedifiwouldbeinterestedinworkingwithhim.hewas,infact,appointedasassis
5、tantsecretaryofeducationforcivilrights.afterhehadtakenthatpost,heaskedifiwouldbeehisassistant,andiacceptedthatposition.inmyearlyperiodthere,ihadtwomajorprojects.thefirstwasanarticleiwroteforjudgethomassignatureontheeducationofminoritystudents.thesecondwastheorganizationofaseminaronhigh-riskstudentsw
6、hichwasabandonedbecausejudgethomastransferredtotheeeocwherehebecamethechairmanofthatoffice.duringthisperiodatthedepartmentofeducation,myworkingrelationshipwithjudgethomaswaspositive.ihadagooddealofresponsibilityandindependence.ithoughtherespectedmyworkandthathetrustedmyjudgment.afterapproximatelythr
7、eemonthsofworkingthere,heaskedmetogooutsociallywithhim.whathappenednextandtellingtheworldaboutitarethetwomostdifficultthings-experiencesofmylife.itisonlyafteragreatdealofagonizingconsiderationandsleeplessnumber-agreatnumberofsleeplessnightsthatiamabletotalkoftheseunpleasantmatterstoanyonebutmyclosef
8、riends. ideclinedtheinvitationtogooutsociallywithhimandexplainedtohimthatithoughtitwouldjeopardizewhatatthetimeiconsideredtobeaverygoodworkingrelationship.ihadanormalsociallifewithothermenoutsideoftheoffice.ibelievedthen,asnow,thathavingasocialrelationshipwithapersonwhowassupervisingmyworkwouldbeill
9、-advised.iwasveryunfortablewiththeideaandtoldhimso.ithoughtthatbysayingnoandexplainingmyreasonsmyemployerwouldabandonhissocialsuggestions.however,tomyregret,inthefollowingfewweeks,hecontinuedtoaskmeoutonseveraloccasions.hepressedmetojustifymyreasonsforsayingnotohim.theseincidentstookplaceinhisoffice
10、ormine.theywereintheformofprivateconversationswhichwouldnothavebeenoverheardbyanyoneelse.myworkingrelationshipbecameevenmorestrainedwhenjudgethomasbegantouseworksituationstodiscusssex.ontheseoccasions,hewouldcallmeintohisofficeforreportsoneducationissuesandprojects,orhemightsuggestthat,becauseofthet
11、imepressuresofhisschedule,wegotolunchtoagovernmentcafeteria.afterabriefdiscussionofwork,hewouldturntheconversationtoadiscussionofsexualmatters.hisconversationswereveryvivid.hespokeaboutacts(转载自http:/,请保留此标记。)thathehadseeninpornographicfilmsinvolvingsuchmattersaswomenhavingsexwithanimalsandfilmsshowi
12、nggroupsexorrapescenes.hetalkedaboutpornographicmaterialsdepictingindividualswithlargepenisesorlargebreastsinvolvedinvarioussexacts.onseveraloccasions,thomastoldmegraphicallyofhisownsexualprowess.becauseiwasextremelyunfortabletalkingaboutsexwithhimatallandparticularlyinsuchagraphicway,itoldhimthatid
13、idnotwanttotalkaboutthesesubjects.iwouldalsotrytochangethesubjecttoeducationmattersortononsexualpersonalmatterssuchashisbackgroundorhisbeliefs.myeffortstochangethesubjectwererarelysuccessful.throughouttheperiodoftheseconversations,healsofromtimetotimeaskedmeforsocialengagements.myreactiontotheseconv
14、ersationswastoavoidthembyeliminatingopportunitiesforustoengageinextendedconversations.thiswasdifficultbecauseatthetimeiwashisonlyassistantattheofficeofeducation-orofficeforcivilrights.duringthelatterpartofmytimeatthedepartmentofeducation,thesocialpressuresandanyconversationofhisoffensivebehaviorende
15、d.ibeganbothtobelieveandhopethatourworkingrelationshipcouldbeaproper,cordial,andprofessionalone. whenjudgethomaswasmadechairoftheeeoc,ineededtofacethequestionofwhethertogowithhim.iwasaskedtodoso,andidid.theworkitselfwasinteresting,andatthattimeitappearedthatthesexualovertureswhichhadsotroubledmehade
16、nded.ialsofacedtherealisticfactthatihadnoalternativejob.whileimighthavegonebacktoprivatepractice,perhapsinmyoldfirmoratanother,iwasdedicatedtocivilrightswork,andmyfirstchoicewastobeinthatfield.moreover,thedepartmentofeducationitselfwasadubiousventure.presidentreaganwasseekingtoabolishtheentiredepart
17、ment.formyfirstmonthsattheeeoc,whereicontinuedtobeanassistanttojudgethomas,therewerenosexualconversationsorovertures.however,duringthefallandwinterof1982,thesebeganagain.thementswererandomandrangedfrompressingmeaboutwhyididntgooutwithhimtoremarksaboutmypersonalappearance.irememberhissayingthatsomeda

23、smostlyinstaffmeetings.inthespringof1983,anopportunitytoteachatoralrobertsuniversityopenedup.iparticipatedinaseminar-taughtanafternoonsessionandseminaratoralrobertsuniversity.thedeanoftheuniversitysawmeteachingandinquiredastowhetheriwouldbeinterestedinfurthering-pursuingacareerinteaching,beginningat
24、oralrobertsuniversity.iagreedtotakethejobinlargepartbecauseofmydesiretoescapethepressuresifeltattheeeocduetojudgethomas.wheniinformedhimthatiwasleavinginjuly,irecallthathisresponsewasthatnowiwouldnolongerhaveanexcusefornotgoingoutwithhim.itoldhimthatistillpreferrednottodoso.atsometimeafterthatmeetin
