In this multicultural society, masses of rich and colorful ethnic cultures get together in a melting pot. These foreign cultures shock Chinese culture constantly at their different ideas and custom

17、 longer surprising to see teenagersgoing crazy about rock-and-roll, whole families dining out at mcdonalds and evenrather elderly people dressed in apple jeans. however, these are only some expressions of the cultural changes taking placein our society today. what is really going on is a subtle but

18、significant restructuringof the nations mentality. just look around. it is therefore evident that we as descendants of an ancient eastern civilizationare already living under strong inf1uence of the western culture. but it is not onlyin china that we find the incorporation of the two cultures. take

19、the chinese acupuncture as another example: this traditional treatment ofdiseases is finally finding its way to the west and hence the underlying notion thatillness is resulted from the imbalance between yin and yang within the body - anidea which would strike any westerner as incredible in the past

20、! ladies and gentlemen, we live in a great epoch when the global integration ofeconomy and the information revolution have brought cultures of the world closer thanever before. we live in a particular era when countries, east and west, find themselvesin need of readjusting their traditional values.
