BornintoawealthyJiangyinfamily,Xubecameinterestedinbooksaboutdifferentplacesatanearlyage.Whenhewas18,however，Xu'sfatherdied.Henowwasresponsibleforthefamilyfarmandtakingcareofhis60-year-oldmotherastraditionrequired.Buthismotherrefusedtokeephimathome.SheagreedthatXucouldtravelforthreemonthseveryyear,whentherewaslessfarmwork.Soattheageoftwentyandwithhismother'ssupport,Xusetoffforthefirsttime.Thenhetravelledforthenext30years.
Duringhistravel,hecarefullystudiedthelandshepassedthroughandrecordedhisexperiencesinadiary.Thisdiary,whichoncehadover500,000words,wouldeventuallybecomeTheTravelNotesofXuXiake.Althoughrich,Xuavoidedcomfortabletravel,preferringtogoalmosteverywhereonfoot.Thiswayhecouldresearchtheenvironmentindetailandgetatruepictureofthenaturalworld.

OnApril19th,2019,apottery（陶器）showwasheldatWuhanOpticalValleyExperimentalSchool.Manypiecesofpotteryindifferentsizeswereshownattheschool.Somewereabitbroken,butallofthemwerebeautifulworksofartcreatedbythestudents.

“PotteryusedtoplayanimportantroleinthedailylivesofChinesepeople.”schoolheadMaGuoxintoldthereporter.“Bypotterypainting,thestudentscanimprovethemselvesinmanyways.Theycanbetterunderstandthehistoryofthepottery,puttheircreativityintothepotteryandshowtheloveforlifeandbeauty.”
Studentsturnedthepotteryintodifferentworksofart.Theywereallencouragedtopaintpicturesonthepottery,eventhoughsomestudentsdidn'tknowhowtopaint.WangZixuan,astudentfromGradeEight,withlittleknowledgeofpainting,paintedabeautifulnightsceneryonapieceofpottery.Itwassonicethatmanystudentslovedit.
