翻译美学视角下公示语的翻译研究

Abstract

Thelanguageofpublicsignsisakindofpracticallanguagewhichisdisplayedinpublicplaces.Withthedevelopmentofscience,technologyandtransportation,thestepsofglobalizationisfasterthanbefore.Theearthislikeavillage,publicsignswhichfrequentlyappearinthepublicplaceshavebecomeagoodwayofshowingextensiveandprofoundChineseculture.Atthesametime,humanisticspirithasalsobecomeaaspectwhichpeoplepaymoreattentionto.Thetranslationofpublicsigns,especiallyitsEnglishform,hasbecomeawindowtoshowChineseculture.

Currentstatusofpubliclanguageisthat,asakindofpracticalwriting,mostpeopleonlypayattentiontoitsapplication.Recently,moreandmorepeoplestarttocarryoutstudyonthetranslationofpublicsignsaftertheynoticeitsimportance.Sinceaesthetichasbecameaindependentsubject,therearemanyChineseandwesternscholarsstarttocarryouttheirstudyontranslationaesthetics.But,therearefewpeoplecombinethetwotogether.Thisarticleaimstoshowtherepresentationofbeautyonthreelevelsincludingphonetics,wordingandsyntaxfromthetranslationperspectiveofaesthetics.Whenwetranslatepublicsignsweshouldtransferbeautyandneverforgettorealizeequivalenttransmission.Thereaderscanenjoythebeautyofpublicsigns,andalsolearntheindicative,persuade,remindingandwarningsigns.Translationaestheticsaimstostudytherelationshipbetweentranslationandaesthetics,andmakethewilloftheauthorisbettertobeunderstoodbythereadersinamoreacceptableandappreciatedway.Usingtranslationaestheticscanbeautifythestyleofpracticalwriting,andleavethereadersastressimpression.

Therearefivepartsofthisstudy,thefirstpartintroducestheresearchbackgroundandsignificanceofthestudy,thesecondpartanalyzestheoriginandthe

developmentoftranslationaestheticsofChinaandwesterncountries,thethirdpart

introducestheframeworkoftranslationaestheticsandpublicsigns.Thefourthpartexpoundstherelationshipbetweenthetwo,andhowtomakeagooduseoftranslation

aestheticstheory.Thelastsectionsumsupthisarticle,andsummarizedthedeficienciesofthestudy.

摘要

公示语是一种在公共场所展示的应用文体。

随着当代科技的发展，交通的便利，全球化的脚步越来越快，地球越来越像一个村庄，因此在公共场所频频出现的公示语成了向外国友人展示中国的一种好方式。

除科学技术之外，人文也精神成为了彰显国家实力的一个重要方面。

公示语的翻译尤其是公示语的英译，成为了展示中国文化的重要窗口。

然而，目前的公示语翻译现状是，因为作为一种应用文体，大多数人只注重它的应用,即有没有传达出作者想表达的思想。

近来，越开越多的人注重到公示语翻译的重要性，从而投入到了其研究之中，而美学自成为一门独立学科以来，也有无数中外学者投入其研究之中，但是却鲜有人将两者结合起来，更少有人从翻译美学的视角审视公示语的翻译。

本文旨在翻译美学的理论视角下，关注公示语翻译的语音层、词汇层翻以及句法层三个层面的美的体现。

公示语翻译必须在追求信息的尽量等值传递的同时，关注美的再现问题，从而使译文接受者得到美的享受，也使公示语达到指示、规劝、提醒、警示的效果。

翻译美学旨在研究翻译跟美学之间的关系。

用翻译美学的视角去翻译公示语，是将应用文体美化，让看到的人过目不忘，从而获得一个好的印象。

本文共有五个部分，第一部分主要介绍研究美学角度下的公示语研究的背景及意义，第二部分分析了中美翻译美学的起源跟发展，第三部分深入阐述了翻译美学以及公示语的概念，第四部分阐述了两者之间的关系，以及怎样在翻译美学的理论关照下做好公示语的翻译，最后一部分总结了本篇文章，也概括了此研究的不足。

1.Introduction

1.1ResearchBackground

Withtherapiddevelopmentofeconomy,theworldtradebecomesmorefrequent.Chinaasasuperpower,withapopulationofmorethan1.4billion,playsanimportantroleinallkindsoftrade.Thelast35yearshaswitnessedChina’sfastdevelopmentwithitsreformandopeningup.

SinceChina’sreformandopeningup,communicationbetweendifferentcountrieshasbeenmoreandmorefrequent.Underthisbackground,thetranslationofpublicsignsandtheresearchaboutrelationshipbetweenthepublicsignsandtranslationaesthetichasarousedlotsofattention.Theexistingstudyhasshownthatthereisn’tenoughresearchonthissubject.Thetranslationofpublicsignsundertheperspectiveoftranslationaestheticisrarelymentioned.

It’snaturalofhumanbeingstopursuethebeautyinallkindsofactivities.Therefore,thelackofattentiontothetranslationofpublicsignsintheaestheticperspectivehasraisedsomeattention.Thisarticlewillmakeaspecificanalysisonthebeautyoftranslationofpublicsignsonphoneticlevel,wordinglevelandsyntaxlevel.

1.2TheSignificanceoftheStudy

Withtheaccelerationofeconomicglobalizationprocess,theworldtradeandcommunicationarebecomingmorefrequentandtighter.China,withitsenhancedoverallnationalstrength,isplayingamoreandmoreimportantroleontheworldstage.It’switnessedbytheworldthatsinceChina’sreformandopeningup,China’seconomymakesagreatprogressafter30year’sdevelopment.Atthesametime,Chinahasadvancedinculture,education,scienceandtechnologyandotherfields,whichpromptsChineseculturetothewholeword.ThreearemoreandmoreforeigninvestorsandtouristscometovisitChina.InordertofacilitatethelifeofforeignersinChina,bilinguallanguagepublicsignsareprovidedinpublicplacesofmanycities.Thetranslationofpublicsignsreflectsacountry’sforeignexchangelevelandhumanenvironmentconstruction.Tobuildinternationalmetropolisandinternationaltouristdestinationsrequiresfavorableinternationallanguageenvironment,soasanimportantpartoflanguageenvironmentandhumanenvironmentofthecosmopolitancityandtouristdestinations,theimportanceoffinetranslationandapplicationofcorrectpublicsignsliesinthefactthatitcanprovidevisitorswithgoodconsiderationconcerningfood,accommodation,clothing,transportation,travelling,shoppingandentertaining

Theusageoftranslationaestheticshasbrokenthetraditionalconceptintranslationtheory.Itpaidmoreattentiontotheprocessoftranslationwhetherhaveproducedakindofaestheticfeelingornot.Itisnotonlyconveysthecontentofthetranslation,butalsopayattentiontohowtoconveythecontentoftheoriginaltextandgivewhatfeelingtothereader.Ontheotherhand,publicsigns,asainternationallanguage,weneedtostudyhowtouseit,especiallyintoday'scompetitiveinternationalenvironment.

2.LiteratureReview

2.1ForeignstudyonTranslationAesthetics

Withthousandsofhistory,theaestheticthoughtcandatebacktoancienttimes,however,asanindependentsubject,ithadonlymorethan200-yearhistory.In1750,AlexanderGottlibBaumgarten---Germanenlighteningideologist,philosopherandesthetician,publishedhismasterpieceAesthetics,whichwasconsiderasthesignofestablishmentforaesthetics---theaestheticsintoday,aredefineditasastudyofemotionalcognitionandthinking.

A.F.Tyler（1790）proposedthe“threePrinciplesofTranslation”toemphasizetheimportanceoftranslatingthebeautyoftheoriginaltotranslatedworks.InhisEssayonthePrinciplesofTranslation,thethreeprincipleswerestatedas:

1.Thatthetranslationshouldgiveacompletetranscriptoftheideasoftheoriginalwork.

2.Thatthestyleandmannerofwritingshouldbeofthesamecharacterwiththatoftheoriginal.

3.Thatthetranslationshouldhavealltheeaseoforiginalcomposition.（A.F.Tytler,1989:

PualValeryfromFranceheldthattranslationshouldpreservethespiritandbearingoftheoriginalandtheskillsoftranslationmainlydependontranslators’aestheticsperceptionoftruthvaluestowardliteratureworks.

In1920s,theItalianphilosopherandBenedettoCroce（1866---1952）publishedabooknamedPrinciplesofAestheticsinwhichhepointedoutthatliteraturetranslationwasreportofart.Thenin1960s,oneoftherepresentativesofPragueschoolmaintainedthatthepurposeoftranslationwastobringreadersthebeautifulenjoymentoftranslationandmakethemsensetheartist.

2.2DomesticStudyonTranslationAesthetics

InChina,thestatusofthetheoryfoundationofpublicsignstranslationisthat,mostdomesticarticlesaboutthetranslationofpublicsignsonlystressonitsfunctionandthetranslatorusuallyemphasizesthesourcelanguage’scommunicationfunction.TheRealizationoftheexpectedfunctionservesasanimportantstandardoftestingthetranslationquality.Eversincetheconceptofaesthetichasbeenputforward,manyChinesescholarshavedonetheirstudy.However,thereislittlestudyofpublicsignsfromperspectiveoftranslationaesthetics.

However,intheprocessofpublicsigns’translation,it’snotenoughiftranslatorsareonlyloyaltoachievethepurpose
