Thedefinitionofethics

Ethicsisdefinedastheprinciples,values,andbeliefsthatdefinerightandwrongdecisionsandbehavior(Robbins.S&Coulter.M,2011,p.99).Ethicshavethreeviews:

UtilitarianView,RightsView,JusticeView.

BusinessEthicsisnotpersonality,butagoodpersonalityisanasset,itisnotadequate.Thatistheprimaryfactorofasuccessfulbusiness.Businessethicsiswhatpeoplecancounton,whatyouhavetodoandmustdo.Nowadays,moreandmoreattentionshavebeenfixedtothebusinessethics.

Thebusinessprinciples:

honestyisthefirststepinthedevelopment.Thesuccessfulbusinessrequiresthetrustofotherpeople.Goodcharacteristhekeytosuccess.Currently,theslipofethicsandthelackofsocialresponsibility,especiallyintegritycrisisinbusinessfieldseriouslyinfluencedthedevelopmentofsociety.Thephenomenonofthetrustimperfectionisseeneverywhere,givingthesocietyandthenationalotoflosesinmanyways,andyoucan’tcheatyourcustomersforeverandgetawaywithit,youcannotalwaysbeaprofit.So,nomatterwhatyoudo,aslongasyouareinbusiness,weshouldthinkofbusinessisamatterofintegrity,whichisveryimportant.

Manypeopleknowtheimportanceofbusinessethics,buttherearestillmanypeoplenottoabidebyit.Weoftenfindthemediareportsthecreditproblemsinbusiness,suchasaddsomeharmfulmaterialintotheproducts.Thesebehaviorscausemuchgreatdamagetoconsumers,theyspentmoneybutnotgetgoodcommodities,especiallythesecommoditiesharmtheirhealth.Thisisdifficultforpeopletoforgetthatsomechildreneatnotsafemilkpowder,theirhealthsufferedseriousdamage.Peoplecan'tstandthiskindofbehavior,whichharmspeople'sphysicalhealthandsocialdevelopmentforward.Also,thecompanymustfacecollapse,andtherelatedpersonnelwillbepunishedbythelaw.

Inaword,ethicsisthekeyfactortosuccessinfuturebusinessworld.

Goodethicsinthebusiness

In1982,theUnitedStates,someonetookJohnson&Johnsonproduction“Tylenol”whichcontainedcyanide,thendied.Itmadecompany'simagesufferadisastrousdecline,andJohnson&Johnsonwasfacewithahugecrisis.Thecompanyquicklytookmeasurestowithdrawallproducts.Throughtheefforts,afteroneyear,Johnson&Johnsonproductsregainedthepublic’strust.SoJohnson&Johnsongotridofthedilemma.

Johnson&Johnsonchoseamethodthattheyundertookthehugelossesandprotectedpeoplefromharm.IfJohnson&Johnsondidsomethingunconscionable,theywouldstartgreattrouble.ThatJohnsongotridof"Tylenol"crisismainlyliedintheirfirstconsiderationofpublicandtheinterestsofconsumers,theirinsistenceofmoralityandawillingnesstoacceptresponsibility.

Poorethicsinthebusiness

Since2007,theuserhasreflectedthepoorqualityofHPlaptoppurchased.In2008July,Nvidiaadmittedthatsometypesofgraphicscardshadqualityproblems.

In2008ChineseHPprovidedwarrantyservicesforsomemodels.However,inChina,therewasn’tanystatementorservice.Later,theyonlyreplacethecomputerfreelytotheuserwhosecomputerwasduringthewarrantyperiod,whichcausedtheconsumers’dissatisfaction,becausetheywantedtherecallofthelaptopswhichhadblackscreenproblem,thesplashscreenproblemandhightemperatureproblem.Consumersthoughtthat,qualityproblemsappearedarethedesigndefectsHPlaptopitself,evenifrepaired,thenthesamefaultwouldstillappear,andwhatconsumerslostistimeandpatience.

HPemphasizedtoomuchonenterpriseeconomicbenefitsandignoredtheenterpriseethics,whichledtodisastrousconsequences.Ethicsisanecessaryconditionforthenormaloperationofthemarket.Ifanenterpriseisnotmoral,thenthemarketmaynotnormal.Therearethreeprimarycausesoftheevent.Firstly,HP’sbusinessphilosophywentwrong.Secondly,HPdidnothavetherightattitudetowardstheenterpriseethicsandperformance.Thirdly,HPdidnotdaretotakecorporatesocialresponsibility.

WorldComCompany’sinflatedhugeprofitshavebeenbankrupt,becauseofitsfalseaccounting(Sidak,J.G.2003).Thisalsoreflectsthepoorethicsthebusiness.Thecompanycookedthebook,anddeceivedpeople,justtomakeaprofitwhichisalsoagainstmorality.

Somethingthatanorganizationcandotocreateanethicalculture

(1)Selectthecorrectstandardofvalue

Theenterprisevalueisthecoreofenterpriseculture,sochoosethecorrectenterprisevaluesisthefirststrategicissuesofshapingenterpriseculture.Enterprisevalueaffectsindividualmorality,soguidethestafftobecomeamoralpersonwithoutstandingvalues.Andeachemployeemoralperformanceistheimageoftheenterpriseethicsculture.

(2)Buildenterprise’smoralspirit

Themoralspiritisthesupportofanenterprise.Andthemoralspiritandvaluestandardofenterprisearecomplementarytoeachother.Nowadays,peoplearewinpeoplebyvirtue,thatistosay,anenterprisewithoutmoralitywillfailtogainpeople’strust.Thereisnodenyingthatthisisthebasicprincipleofhowtobeamanandthebasicprinciplesofdoingthings.

(3)Strengthenthestaff'smoralconsciousness

Bycertainmethodmaketheenterprisevalueswinsupportamongpeople.Forinstance,propagandizethecontentsandrequirementsofthecorporateculture,strengthenmoraltrainingandeducation.Also,createacultureofmoralandgoodethicalbusinessistofundamentallyimprovethequalityandthecivilizationlevelofthestaffandthewholeenterprise.

(4)Usetheconsensuspropaganda

Usetheconsensuspropagandatomaketheenterprisevalueandenterprise’smoralspiritwinsupportamongthepeople.Similarly,spreadtheexcellentmoralculturetoletpeoplefeeltheimportanceofethics.

(5)Establishapeople-orientedmodelofmanagement

Enterprisesshouldbepeople-oriented,namely,acorporationshouldberesponsiblefornotonlythestaff,butalsothecustomer.Theconstructionofmoralcultureinenterprisesmuststrengthenthequalityconstructionofstaff,andstrengthentheireducationandtraining.Inadditiontothat,enterprisesmustnotobtaininterestbyhurtingthestaff,forthereasonthatthisisextremelyimmoralbehavior.Enterprisesareresponsibleforthecustomer.Foronething,bynomeanwillenterprisesproduceinferiorproducts,fakeproductstodeceivecustomers.Foranotherthing,enterprisesoughttofulfillthedueobligationsandservice.

(6)Sumuptheexperienceandreflect

TheCorporateethicalcultureisdevelopingcontinuously,updatingcontinuouslyandimprovingcontinuously,thenlearnlessonsfromfailureandsummarizeexperience.Beside,enterprisesshouldreflectwithoutpause

ThedefinitionofCSR

Uptonow,thereisnounifiedunderstandingoftheconnotationofsocialresponsibilityathomeandabroad.Carrollthoughtthatcorporatesocialresponsibilityincludesnotonlytheeconomicresponsibilityandlegalresponsibility,butalsomoralresponsibilityandcharitableresponsibility(Carroll1979).

“However,CorporateSocialResponsibilityisthecontinuingcommitmentbybusinesstobehaveethicallyandcontributetoeconomicdevelopmentwhileimprovingthequalityoflifeoftheworkforceandtheirfamiliesaswellasofthelocalcommunityandsocietyatlarge(Holme,R.,&Watts,P.1999).”
