A.ThisStandardcontainsbasicrequirementsforproductscoveredbyUnderwritersLaboratoriesInc.（UL）underitsFollow-UpServiceforthiscategorywithinthelimitationsgivenbelowandintheScopesectionofthisStandard.Theserequirementsarebaseduponsoundengineeringprinciples,research,recordsoftestsandfieldexperience,andanappreciationoftheproblemsofmanufacture,installation,andusederivedfromconsultationwithandinformationobtainedfrommanufacturers,users,inspectionauthorities,andothershavingspecializedexperience.Theyaresubjecttorevisionasfurtherexperienceandinvestigationmayshowisnecessaryordesirable.

B.TheobservanceoftherequirementsofthisStandardbyamanufacturerisoneoftheconditionsofthecontinuedcoverageofthemanufacturer'sproduct.

INTRODUCTION

1Scope

1.1Theserequirementscoverportableelectrichouseholdskilletsandotherfrying-typeappliances,ratedat125Vorless,foruseinordinarylocationsinaccordancewiththeNationalElectricalCode.

1.2Frying-typeappliancesinthisstandardincludefrying-pans,sauce-pans,griddles,cornpoppers,deepfatfryers,fondues,tempuras,woks,waffleorsandwichmakers,andothersimilarapplianceswhichmayormaynotbethermostaticallycontrolled.

1.3Theserequirementsdonotcoverskilletsorfrying-typeappliancesintendedforoutdooruse,warmingtrays,orappliancesthatarecoveredinindividualrequirementsthatareseparatefromthisstandard.

1.4Inthefollowingtext,arequirementwhichappliestoonetypeofequipmentcomingwithinitsscope（skillet,waffle-maker,andthelike）willbesoidentifiedbyaspecificreferenceinthatrequirementtothetypeofequipmentinvolved.Intheabsenceofsuchspecificreferenceoriftheterm"appliance"isemployed,itistobeunderstoodthattherequirementappliestoallofthetypesofequipmentcoveredbythestandard.

1.5Aproductthatcontainsfeatures,characteristics,components,materials,orsystemsnewordifferentfromthosecoveredbytherequirementsthisStandard,andthatinvolvesariskoffire,electricshock,orinjurytopersonsshallbeevaluatedusingtheappropriateadditionalcomponentandend-productrequirementsasdeterminednecessarytomaintaintheacceptablelevelofsafetyasoriginallyanticipatedbytheintentofthisStandard.Aproductwhosefeatures,characteristics,components,materials,orsystemsconflictwithspecificrequirementsorprovisionsofthisStandardcannotbejudgedtocomplywiththisStandard.Whereconsideredappropriate,revisionofrequirementsshallbeproposedandadoptedinconformancewiththemethodsemployedfordevelopment,revision,andimplementationofthisStandard.

2Components

2.1Exceptasindicatedin2.2,acomponentofaproductcoveredbythisstandardshallcomplywiththerequirementsforthatcomponent.SeeAppendixAforalistofstandardscoveringcomponentsgenerallyusedintheproductscoveredbythisstandard.

2.2Acomponentneednotcomplywithaspecificrequirementthat:
