　　Hi,everybody.SundayisFather'sDay.Ifyouhaven'tgotDadagiftyet,there'sstilltime.Justbarely.Butthetruthis,whatwegiveourfatherscannevermatchwhatourfathersgiveus.

　　Iknowhowimportantitistohaveadadinyourlife,becauseIgrewupwithoutmyfatheraround.Ifelttheweightofhisabsence.SoforMichelleandourgirls,Itryeverydaytobethehusbandandfathermyfamilydidn'thavewhenIwasyoung.AndeverychanceIget,Iencouragefatherstogetmoreinvolvedintheirchildren'slives,becausewhatmakesyouamanisn'ttheabilitytohaveachild–it'sthecouragetoraiseone.

　　Still,overthepastcoupleyears,I'vemetwithalotofyoungpeoplewhodon'thaveafatherfigurearound.Andwhilethere'snothingthatcanreplaceaparent,anyofuscandoourparttobeamentor,asoundingboard,arolemodelforakidwhoneedsone.Earlierthisyear,IlaunchedaninitiativecalledMyBrother'sKeeper–anall-hands-on-deckefforttohelpmoreofouryoungmenreachtheirfullpotential.Andifyouwanttobeamentortoayoungmaninyourcommunity,youcanfindouthowatWhiteHouse.gov/MyBrothersKeeper.

　　Now,whenIlaunchedthisinitiative,Isaidthatgovernmentcan'tplaytheprimaryroleinayoungperson'slife.Takingresponsibilityforbeingagreatparentormentorisachoicethatwe,asindividuals,havetomake.Nogovernmentprogramcanevertaketheplaceofaparent'slove.Still,asacountry,therearewayswecanhelpsupportdadsandmomswhomakethatchoice.

　　That'swhy,earlierthisweek,webroughtworkingdadsfromacrossAmericatotheWhiteHousetotalkaboutthechallengestheyface.Andinafewweeks,I'llholdthefirst-everWhiteHouseWorkingFamiliesSummit.We'vestillgottoomanyworkplacepoliciesthatbelongintheXXXX年s,andit'stimetobringthemuptodatefortoday'sfamilies,whereoftentimes,bothparentsareworking.Momsanddadsdeserveaffordablechildcare,andtimeofftocareforasickparentorchildwithoutrunningintohardship.Womendeserveequalpayforequalwork–andatatimewhenmorewomenarebreadwinnersforafamily,thatbenefitsmen,too.Andbecausenoparentwhoworksfull-timeshouldhavetoraiseafamilyinpoverty,it'stimeforCongresstofollowtheleadofstateafterstate,getonthebandwagon,andgiveAmericaaraise.

　　Dadsworkhard.Soourcountryshoulddowhatwecantomakesuretheirhardworkpaysoff;tomakesurelifeforthemandtheirfamiliesisalittlelessstressful,andalittlemoresecure,sotheycanbethedadstheirkidsneedthemtobe.Becausethere'snothingmorepreciousinlifethanthetimewespendwithourchildren.There'snobetterfeelingthanknowingthatwecanbethereforthem,andprovideforthem,andhelpgivethemeveryshotatsuccess.

　　Let'smakesureeverydadwhoworkshardandtakesresponsibilityhasthechancetoknowthatfeeling,notjustononeSunday,buteverydayoftheyear.
