OnSeptember25, 2019,theDaxingInternationalAirport, Beijing’snewairport,openedtothepublic.Itissaidtobe theworld’slargestterminal（航空站）inasinglebuilding,andisexpectedtoreceivenearly72 millionpassengersby2025.

Locatedontheborder（边界） ofBeijingandLangfang,HebeiProvince,theairportisBeijing’ssecondinternationalairport.ItnotonlyservesBeijingbutalsoTianjinandHebeiProvince,makingBeijingairports,TianjinBinhaiInternationalAirportandShijiazhuangAirportintothelargestairportcluster（群）innorthernChina.

Theairport isabout46kilometressouthofTian’anmenSquare,26kilometreswestofLangfangCity,55kilometresnortheastofXiong’anNewArea, and67kilometresawayfromtheoldBeijingCapitalInternationalAirport.PassengerscantaketheDaxingairportsubwaylinefromthecentreofBeijingtogettotheairportinjust19minutes.

Theairport takesupatotalofabout1.4millionsquaremetres,including700,000squaremetresofcorearea.Itisplannedtobeabletodealwith45millionin2022,72 millionin2025,and100millionpassengersperyearinalongrun—morethanLondon’sHeathrowandNewYork’sJFKairportsputtogether.

TheideaoftheBeijingCapital’ssecondinternationalairportcouldbedatedbacktotheyearof2006. Twoyearslaterin2008,ateamforthenewairportwassetup.In2011,theprojectofDaxingAirportwaskickedoff.InDecember,2016,DaxingAirport’smainterminalbuildingwasfinished.Theairportterminal,withanareaofmorethan1,000,000㎡, wascompletedonJune30,2019.

Now technologiesincludingfacialrecognition（人脸识别） willbeusedintheairport,allowingpassengerstousetheirfacestocheckin. Thesecurity（安全）checkchannelswillbeabletocheck260peopleperhour,whichis40%fasterthan traditionalairports. Thenewairportissuretohelpwiththedevelopmentofthelocalareas.
