Lenwoodlosthissightin1973，atage18，duringahuntingaccident．“Mywholeworkingcareerhasbeenblind，”hesays．Hefirstfoundajobasawoodworker,butwhenthatorganizationclosed，theNorthCarolinaDivisionofServicesfortheBlindconnectedhimwithHatterasHammocks．Onhisfirstdayofwork．“Ididatotalofonehammock,”Lenwoodrecalls，laughing．“AndthenIcamehomeandlaydowntosleep．Iliftweights，butIwasn’tastoughasIthoughtuntilIstartedweaving．Ittakesalotofenergy，andyou’restandingupallday．”
Intime，however，Lenwoodfoundhehadaknack（窍门）forthejob．Atfirstheworkedon-siteatthecompany，butafterayearLenwoodmovedhisoperationtothehomeworkshopwherehehadworkedfor10yearsduringhiswoodworkingdays．
There，hecreatesdozensofhammockseachweekfromropesinavarietyofsizes．Oneday，herealizedthestepcounteronhisphonerecordedhimwalkingeightmileswithouteverleavinghisshop．
Theprocessofweavingahammockinvolvesmakingandcatchinghundredsofloops（环）．Asinglemissedstitch（织针）createsaholethatcanwidenandmakethehammockuncomfortableorevendangeroustouse．Experiencedweaversmissloopssometimes，buttohiscompany’sknowledge，Lenwoodhasneverturnedinahammockwithevenonedroppedstitch．Lenwood’sskilledfingersarequicktocatchandfixanymistakes．
