(1)其含义表示过去某个时刻正在发生的动作或过去某段时间内正在进行的动作。

(2)在与lastnight/alldayyesterday/allthetime/thewholemorning等表示过去的时间状语连用时,过去进行时强调动作的过程,一般过去时只是单纯说明动作完成的事实。
e.g.Iwasworkingalldayyesterday.(过去进行时强调过程)Iworkedalldayyesterday.(一般过去时说明事实)(3)在叙述或描写过去的事情时,过去进行时经常与其他时态连用,但过去进行时往往用来表示事情发生的背景。
