InAmerica,thedebateisnolongeraboutwhethersurgeryisnormal;rather,itcentersonwhatagepeopleshouldbebeforegoingundertheknife.NewYorksurgeonDr.GerardImberrecommends“maintenance”workforpeopleintheirthirties.“Theideaofwaitinguntiloneneedsaheroictransformationissilly,”hesays.“Bythen,you’vewasted20greatyearsofyourlifeandallowedthingstogetoutofhand.”Dr.Imberdrawsthelineatoperatingonpeoplewhoareunder18,however.“Itseemsthatsomeonewedon’tconsideroldenoughtoorderadrinkshouldn’tbeconsideringplasticsurgery.”
