WhentheAmericanCivilWarbrokeout,theBlackwellsistersaidedinnursingefforts.Aftertheendofthewar,ElizabethBlackwellcarriedoutaplanthatshehaddevelopedtogetherwithherfriendFlorenceNightingalewhileinEngland.SheopenedtheWomen’sMedicalCollegewithhersister.Thiscollegewasoperatedunderhersister’smanagement.ShemovedtoEnglandthenextyear.There,shehelpedtoorganizetheNationalHealthSocietyandshefoundedtheLondonSchoolofMedicineforWomen.
