InspiredbyGagarin’sflight,TereshkovawrotetotheSovietauthorities(当局)hopingforanyfuturetrainingprogramforfemaleastronauts.Theauthoritiesansweredandinearly1962shebecameoneofjustfivewomenacceptedforastronauttraining.OnJune16,1963,Tereshkovatookoff,eventuallycirclingtheEarth48timesoverthecourseofalmostthreedaysandsecuringherplaceinhistoryasthefirstwomantoleavetheEarth’satmosphere.
