WilliamButlerYeatsisIreland’sgreatestpoetandconsideredbymanythefinestpoetofthetwentiethcentury.

YeatswasborninDublinin1865,intoafamilywherehischildhoodlackedtheharmonythatwastypicalofahappyfamily.HisfatherJohnButlerYeatswasadistinguishedpainter,hissistersSusanandElizabethwerecreativecraftswomen(女手艺人)andprinters,andhisbrotherJackYeatsbecameIreland’smostcelebratedpainter.Hismotherwasfromawellestablishedmerchantfamily.

Theyear1889wasasignificantoneinhislife,asthepublicationofTheWanderingsofOisininLondonmarkedhisdebut(初次亮相)asamajorpoet.ItwasalsowhenhefirstmetthebeautifulMaudGonewhobecamehismuse,althoughhislovewasfamouslyunrequited(单相思的).

In1917,YeatsmetandmarriedGeorgeHyde-Lees.Theywentontohavetwochildren,AnneandMichael.Georgesharedhisinterestinthesupernaturalandautomaticwriting,andtheyweretogetheruntilthepoet’sdeathin1939,atMenton,France.

Yeatsisamakerofextraordinarylovepoemsandanarchitectofmodernism,andmanyofhismostpowerfullineshaveenteredthelanguage.Yeatsisunusualamongpoetsinthattheproducedsomeofhisbestworksaftertheageofsixty.

YeatswasthefirstIrishmantobeawardedtheNobelPrize,in1923.Hesawtheawardas“partofEurope’swelcometotheFreeState”,andsaidheacceptedonbehalfofallwhohadworkedwithhimintheIrishLiteraryRevival.Yeatsisaculturalrevolutionarywhobecomesaremarkableculturalentrepreneur.

Studyparticipantswereaskedquestionsdesignedtodetermineiftheywerequick-temperedandbecameangryeasily.Theywereaskedhowangrilytheywouldreacttospecificprovocations(挑衅),suchasbeingcriticizedbyothers,Finallytheyweresortedintogroupsbasedonhowtheydealtwithanger—the“anger-in”group,the“anger-out”groupandthe“anger-control”group.

Thepeoplewhocontrolledtheiranger,sayingtheywould“keepmycool”underpressure,gotbetterqualitysleepduringaweekofbeingtracked.Butthosewhoheldbacktheiranger,withinthe“anger-in”group,gotworsesleepbycomparison.Thestudyshowedthosewhodidnotlettheirangeroutbysaying“unpleasantthings”,butinsteadchoseto“boilinside”stilllostoutonsleep.

Previousresearchhassuggestedthatpeopleareangrybecausetheyloseoutonsleep,whichmakesithardertoholdbacknegativefeelingsandcreatesavicious(恶意的、恶劣的)circle.
