Hightechnology,convenienttransportationandclosecommunicationmakethewholeworlda“small”village.Toalargeextent,Englishplaysansignificantroleinworldwidecommunicationandbringsvariouscountriestogether,whichcausesthosenon-Englishspeakingcountrieslosingmanychancestojointheworld.Thatistosay,thechanceshidingbehindEnglisharewaitingforpeopletoexplore.Undertheglobalization,thereisnodoubtthatEnglishhasalreadybecomeinternationallanguagewhichbelongstothewholeworld.NotonlydoesEnglishplayaveryimportantrole,butitisthemostsignificantlanguageofthefiveofficiallanguagesintheUnitedNations,andmanyotherinternationalandlocalinstitutionsalsotakeEnglishastheonlyworkinglanguage.Moreover,Englishisthemaincarrierofadvancedscienceandtechnology,themainlanguageofworldmediaandthemainmediumofeducation,“soEnglishglobalizationwillnotfollowpeople’swill”（LiShaohua3）.

TheconsequenceofEnglishglobalizationisEnglishlocalization,everylanguageisusedtopresentthereality,transmitinformationanddelivercultures.However,differentcountrieshavedifferentreality,informationandcultures.VariouscultureshavemingledwithEnglish,whichcannotbeavoidedandshouldnotbeavoided.EachcountryhasitsownEnglishofdistinguishedfeatures,sodoesChina.

Chinaisacountrywithsuchcolourfulcultures,whichothercountriesdonothave.ThereisnoexactexpressionforminEnglish,either.SoEnglishinChinaisinevitablyblendedwithChinesefeatures.AsforEnglishteachinginChina,someteachersenjoyexcessivelyapproachingtheculturesofEnglish-speakingcountries,butgivingupChineseowncultures.Asaresult,linguisticpovertyappears.WhentheytalkaboutChinesecultures,theycannotexpresstheirthoughtsexactlyinEnglish.Atlast,theyhavetouseChinesetoexplainEnglishtexts.Englishasaninternationallanguageatleastbringstwoenlightenments.Firstly,thespreadingofEnglishmustexperienceaprocessoftakingoffsomeoriginalculturesandmeanwhileimplantingsomenewcultures.Secondly,Englishmustkeepitsintelligibilityallovertheworld.

EnglishglobalizationandlocalizationhaspushedEnglishteachingintoahighlevel,whichcausesmoreattention.Englishglobalizationhasnodoubtbroughtpeoplegreatbenefits,butitmayalsothreatenotherlanguagessothatmanylocaloriginalculturesfade.Therefore,EnglishlocalizationshouldweighequallytoEnglishglobalizationtoavoidlanguagethreateningandcultureslosing.SinceEnglishglobalizationandlocalizationplaysuchasignificantrole,itisnothardtofindthatEnglishteachinginChinamoreorlessgetssomeimplication.ForEnglishteachinginChina,thereexistsalotoftypicalproblems,suchas,theseparationofsituationandcommunication,theinsufficiencyofChineselocalculturesincontentsandthenegligenceoflearners’emotionandlearningefficiency.Tosomeextent,suchsituationisduetothefailuretoEnglishglobalizationandlocalization.Therefore,EnglishteachinginChinaneedstotakeaccountofEnglishglobalizationandlocalization,whichmayadvanceEnglishteachingandsolvesometypicalteachingproblems.

16）.“Intheearly1900s,theexpansionofEnglandlaidasolidfoundationforEnglishbecominganinternationallanguage.Inthemiddleofthe20s,Americaplayedachiefroleintheworldeconomyandcultures,whichadvancedEnglishdevelopmentagain”（Granddol1997:

8）.AccordingtothestatisticsexaminedbyEnglishfamousscholarDavidCrystal,“Thereare57countriestakingEnglishasthefirstlanguage,thenumberis0.45billion;67countriestakeEnglishasthesecondlanguage,thenumberis0.35billion”（56）.

3TheApplicationofEnglishGlobalizationandLocalizationtoEnglishTeachinginChina

SinceEnglishglobalizationandlocalizationhavegivengreatimpactonEnglishteachinginChina,itisnecessarytoapplyittoEnglishteaching.ProperapplicationwillbenefitalottobothEnglishteachersandstudentsinpractice.
