Oneoftheworstthingsaboutlyingisthatitcausesaguiltyconscience.Evenifononediscoversthelie,youwillknowaboutit,anditwillbotheryouforalongtime.Isalieworthallthatguilt?

Anotherproblemoccurswhenyoulietosomeone,andhelearnsthetruthanddiscoversyourlie.Thenyouwillreallybeintrouble.Hewillbeangrybecauseyouweredishonestwithhim,andhewillnotfeelthathecantrustyouanymore.Itisaverysadthingtolostsomeone’strust.Ifyouliealot,eventuallyyoumaygainareputationasaliar.Andonceyouhavegainedareputationasaliar,itisveryhardtogetridofit.Ontheotherhand,ifyouareaveryhonestperson,peoplewilltrustyou,andyouwillbeknownforyourhonesty.Doyoustillrembertheboywhocriedwolfforseveraltimes?

Honestymakesyouhappyandgainsagoodreputation.Agoodreputationisbetterthanmoneyinthebank.

TrueFriends

Friendsplayaveryimportantpartineveryone’slife.Friendshipusuallydevelopsduringchildhood.Newfriendsaremadewhenyouprogressthroughschool.Thosefrieendsthatyoumakeasastudentcanusuallylastlong.Friendsinfluenceyourdevelopmen,maturityandsenseofresponsibility.Afamiliarexpressionis“Youcantellalotaboutapersonbyknowingwhohisfriendsare”.Friendshipisbasedoncommoninterests.Ifyoulikesports,mostofoyurfriendsarelikelytobeathletic.Ifyouenjoyreadingandshopping,mostofyourfrendsdothesame.

Somepeoplecallyoutheirfriendsforthewrongreasons.Thesepeoplearenotrealfriends.Theyaresuperficial,only“friends”ontheoutside,nottheinsidewhereitcounts.Superficialfriendsonlywanttobeyourfriendsifitistotheiradvantage.Truefriendsaretherewhetheryouarerichorpoor.Itiseasytohavemanyso-called“friends”ifyouarerich.

Truefriendsaredifficulttofind.Youcanconsideryourselflickyifyouhaveonetruefriend.Thetruefriendiseagertohelpyouwhenevernecessary.Truefriendssupportyou,takeyourside,andbuildupyourconfidence.

IsHonestyAlwaystheBestPolicy?

Thereisaproverbthatgoes“Honestyisthebestpolicy.”anditseemsastrueasitwaswhenitwasfirstcoined.Themostimportantelementinhumanrelationships,whetherbusinessorpersonal,istrust.Ifyoubreakthattrustandarefoundout,therelationshipwillbedamagedordestroyed.Futhemore,ifyourdishonestyisnotdiscovered,youwillhavetogotogreatlengthstoconcealit.Abreachoftrustcanquicklygrowasyoutelllieafterlieinanefforttoconcealyouroriginaldeceit.Soonevenyoumaybeunabletodistinguishthetruth.Thisitisbettertosticktothetruth.

However,tellingliesisoftenawayofcommunicationgappropriatelywithothers.Thiskindoflyingisnotmorallywronganddoesnotaffectourintegrityasgoodhumanbeings.Forexample,thereisapoliteformulaweusewhenwemeetapersonforthefirsttime.Wesay,“Yournamehasbeenringinginmyearsforalongtime.”wheninfactwehaveneverheardofthepersonbefore.Butwithoutthesenicewords,theconversationmightnotstartwell.Whenwemeetsomeonewedon’tknow,wesay,“Nicetomeetyou!

”perhapsactuallywearenotsopleasedtomeetthem.Butthiskindofexpressionisindispensableincreatingafriendlyatmosphere.Sometimesforthesakeofpoliteness,weareobligedtotakeourfeelings.

Itispracticallyunwisetobehonestallthetimeespeciallywhenwearedealingwithdishonestpeople.Tobedishonestwiththemdoesnothurtourcredibility.Solongaswedon’thurtothers,tellingliesisanacceptablepractice.Therefore,wecansaythathonestyisnotalwaysthebestpolicy.Itdepends.

HasteMakeswaste

Manypeoplebelievethatthefasterthebetter,becausetheycansavetimeinthisway.However,asamatteroffact,thetrsultisfarlessthanbeingsatisfactoryandquiteoftengoestotheopposites.I’dliketosayhastemakeswaste.Therearetworeasonsforit.

Firstly,whenoneisinahurryhe’slikelyotbeheedlessandcareless.Hecannotjudgethesituationfullyandreactcorrectly.Thereforehecannotgetwhathereadilyaimsat.Secondly,hastemayallowaccidentstotakeplace.Inthatcase,itwillhinderonefromreachinghisdestination.

Considerthefollowingsituationwhichtellssomething.Supposeastudentisexpectedtoshowupandgivehispresentationatclasssoon.Heisinsuchahurrythathemayleavehispresentationathomeoronhiswayrushingtoschoolhemayunfortunatelyhaveanaccident.

Ayoungmanbecomesfreefromthedisciplineofschoolandparents,whenhestartstoearnhishisownliving;butatthesametimeheisforcedtoacceptresponsibilities.Hehastoworkhardifhewantstolivecomfortably.Ifhebreadsthelawsofthesocietyasheusedtobreakthelawsofhisparents,hemaybeputintoprison.Ifheworkshard,hemayhaveahappinessofseeinghisownsuccess.

Oldagehasalwaysbeenthoughtofastheworstagetobe,buttheoldcanhavethejoyofseeingtheirchildrenmakingprogressinlife.Andperhapsbestofall,theycanhavethehappinessofhavingcomethroughthebattleoflifesafelyandofhavingreachedatimewhentheycanliebackandrest,seeingouthertocontinuethefight.

Success

Successislifedependstogreatextentonwhatwemeanbysuccess.Tosomepeople,moneyistheonlyrealindicationofachievementinthemodernworldandthereforetheirestimationofsuccessisbasedonthestateoftheirbankbalanceandthepowerthatgoeswithit.Theirlifeisdevotedtomakingmoneyandtheyareatalosstounderstandpeoplewhoseideasaredifferentfromtheirown.Therearepeople,however,whoconsidertheirlivessuccessfulifthey’redoingwhattheyenjoydoingthatmaynotbringthemanygreatfinancialreward.Amanwhospendshistimegardeningmaghtconsiderhimselfsuccessfuliftheflowersblossomedandhistreesgavefruit,andnursing,teaching,runningayouthcluballbringtheirownkindofsuccesstothoseengagedinthem.Successcanbefoundinpaintingapicturenobodywilleeversee.Sailingaboat,watchingthestars,collectingstamps-almostanythingthatinvolvespersonalendeavorcangiveyouasenseofsuccess.Thegreatthingistobelievethatsuccessisnotnecessarilypublic.

TheRabbitandtheFox

Oncetherewasaverynaughtyrabbit.Helikedtoplaytricks.Andthismadeotherbeastsangry.Butitwasverydifficulttocatchhim.

Onedayafoxsaidtoawolf,“Let’sthinkofawaytocatchtherabbitforoursupper.”Afterawhile,thewolfsaid,“I’vegotanidea.Yougobackhomeandgetintobed.I’llgototherabbitandtellhimthatyouaredead.Thenhe’llcomenearyoutoseeifyouaredeadornot.Youcanthenjumpupandcatchhim.”

“That’sagoodidea,”saidthefox.“I’lldothat.”Thefoxranhomeandgotintobed.Thewolfwenttotherabbit’shouse.Hestoodatthedoorandcalled.“Mr.Rabbit,Mr.Rabbit!

“Whatisit?

”saidtherabbit.

“Haveyouheardthefoxisdead?

”saidthewolf,thenhewentaway.

“Really?

Ihaven’theardanythingaboutit.”therabbitsaidtohimself.Sohedecidedtogoandseeifitwastrue.Hewenttothefox’shouse.Helookedinthroughthewindow,andtherehesawthefoxlyinginbed.Heopenedthedoorandwentin.helookedatthefoxandsaid,“Mr.WolfsaysMr.Foxisdead,buthedoesn’tlooklikeadeadfox.Youcanalwaystellifafoxisdead,forthedeadfoxalwaysopenshismouth.”

Whenthefoxheardthis,hethought,“I’llshowhimthatI’mdead.”Soheopenedhismouth.

Whentherabbitsawthefoxopenhismouth,heknewthatthefoxwasnotdead.Hejumpedupandranoutofthehouseasfastashecould.

Dreams

Adreamismadeupofaseriesofmind-picturesthatformduringsleep.Thepeopleandactionsinthesepicturesseemrealtothepersonwhoisdreaming.

Whenapersonisasleep,hehaslittleornocontroloverhismind.Thenideasandfeelingscomeouttoformthemindpictureknownasdreams.

Dreammaybeinfluencedbydifferentthingsthatarepresentduringsleep.Ifapersoniscold,hemaydreamthatheisoutinasnowstorm.Worriesorangermayalsoinfluencethecontentofadream.

Somepeoplethinkthattheyseldomdream,andotherpeoplearequitesurethattheydonotdreamatall.Studiesofhumansleephaveshown,though,thateveryonedreamseverynight.Ifapersonthinkshedoesnotdream,itisbecausehedoesnotrememberdreamingwhenhewakesup.Usually,apersonmaydreamthreetoseventimesforatotalofonetotwohoursofdreamingeverynight.
