the“whitebox”recitalhallforpureacousticperformanceandpracticeandthe“blackbox”recitalhallformixedmedia,electronicmusic,performanceandexperimentation.Thenewstructuresareframedinwhiteprecastconcrete,usingsubtlyshimmeringquartzsandandatitaniumdioxidenanoparticleadditive.Inthepresenceofsunlight,catalytictitaniumdioxidereducesconcentrationsofairbornepollutants.Thestrongstructuralskinresistsmoldandstainswhilereducingairpollution.Lighting,powerandcomfortsystemsaredesignedtosavemorethan50percentinenergycomparedtosimilarcampusbuildings.Thedesignemphasizesnaturallightandexteriorviewstothegreencampus.Thelargewindowsusemodulatedelectrochromicglazingtoreducesolarglareandheatgain.Sensorsautomaticallycontrollightandheattransmissionineachroomandanoverrideswitchallowsuserstocontrollightinindividualspaces.UsingatraditionalFloridiandesignstrategy,stairandelevatorlobbiesareshelteredfromrainanddirectsunbutarenaturallyventilated,reducingenergyusewhileenhancingtheuserexperienceofagreencampusinabenignclimate.Air-conditioningsystemsemployactivechilledbeamunitstocoolthestudios.Rooftopphotovoltaicpanelswillreduceenergyusebyapproximately16percent.Rooftopcisternswillcollectrainwaterforgraywateruseinsidethebuildings,savingmorethanhalfofconventionalwateruse.AimingforLEEDPlatinumcertification,thePatriciaLouiseFrostStudioWingswillopenin2014.41,000sq.ft./12,500sq.m.(new)20,000sq.ft./6,000sq.m.(renovated)PhaseIcompletion:
