PotentialHealthEffects

Eye:

Maycauseirreversibleeyeinjury.Vaporormistmaycauseirritationandsevereburns.Contactwithliquidiscorrosivetotheeyesandcausessevereburns.Maycausepainfulsensitizationtolight.

Skin:

Maybeabsorbedthroughtheskininharmfulamounts.Maycauseskinsensitization,anallergicreaction,whichbecomesevidentuponre-exposuretothismaterial.Contactwithliquidiscorrosiveandcausessevereburnsandulceration.

Ingestion:

Maycausecirculatorysystemfailure.Causesseveredigestivetractburnswithabdominalpain,vomiting,andpossibledeath.Maycausecorrosionandpermanenttissuedestructionoftheesophagusanddigestivetract.Maybeharmfulifswallowed.

Inhalation:

Maycausesevereirritationoftherespiratorytractwithsorethroat,coughing,shortnessofbreathanddelayedlungedema.Causeschemicalburnstotherespiratorytract.Exposuretothemistandvapormayerodeexposedteeth.Causescorrosiveactiononthemucousmembranes.

Chronic:

Prolongedorrepeatedskincontactmaycausedermatitis.Repeatedexposuremaycauseerosionofteeth.Maycausefetaleffects.Laboratoryexperimentshaveresultedinmutageniceffects.Prolongedexposuremaycauseconjunctivitis,photosensitization,andpossibleblindness.

4)FirstAidMeasures

Eyes:

Getmedicalaidimmediately.DoNOTallowvictimtoruborkeepeyesclosed.Extensiveirrigationwithwaterisrequired(atleast30minutes).SPEEDYACTIONISCRITICAL!

Skin:

Getmedicalaidimmediately.Immediatelyflushskinwithplentyofsoapandwaterforatleast15minuteswhileremovingcontaminatedclothingandshoes.Washclothingbeforereuse.Destroycontaminatedshoes.

Ingestion:

DoNOTinducevomiting.Ifvictimisconsciousandalert,give2-4cupfulsofmilkorwater.Nevergiveanythingbymouthtoanunconsciousperson.Getmedicalaidimmediately.

Inhalation:

Getmedicalaidimmediately.Removefromexposuretofreshairimmediately.Ifbreathingisdifficult,giveoxygen.DoNOTusemouth-to-mouthresuscitation.Ifbreathinghasceasedapplyartificialrespirationusingoxygenandasuitablemechanicaldevicesuchasabagandamask.

NotestoPhysician:

DoNOTusesodiumbicarbonateinanattempttoneutralizetheacid.

Antidote:

DoNOTuseoilsorointmentsineye.

5)FireFightingMeasures

GeneralInformation:

Asinanyfire,wearaself-containedbreathingapparatusinpressure-demand,MSHA/NIOSH(approvedorequivalent),andfullprotectivegear.Waterrunoffcancauseenvironmentaldamage.Dikeandcollectwaterusedtofightfire.Duringafire,irritatingandhighlytoxicgasesmaybegeneratedbythermaldecompositionorcombustion.Notflammable,butreactswithmostmetalstoformflammablehydrogengas.Usewaterspraytokeepfire-exposedcontainerscool.Vaporsmaybeheavierthanair.Theycanspreadalongthegroundandcollectinloworconfinedareas.Reactionwithwatermaygeneratemuchheatwhichwillincreasetheconcentrationoffumesintheair.Containersmayexplodewhenheated.

ExtinguishingMedia:

Forlargefires,usewaterspray,fog,oralcohol-resistantfoam.Substanceisnoncombustible;useagentmostappropriatetoextinguishsurroundingfire.DoNOTgetwaterinsidecontainers.DoNOTusestraightstreamsofwater.Mostfoamswillreactwiththematerialandreleasecorrosive/toxicgases.Coolcontainerswithfloodingquantitiesofwateruntilwellafterfireisout.Forsmallfires,usecarbondioxide(exceptforcyanides),drychemical,drysand,andalcohol-resistantfoam.
