Inforeigntrade,enquiriesareusuallymadebybuyerswithoutengagementtogetinformationaboutthegoodstobeordered,suchasprice,catalogue,deliverydateandotherterms.
Enquiriesmaybeeitherdispatchedbymail,cable,telexandfaxorhandedtothesuppliesthroughpersonalcontact.
Whenmakinganenquiry,abuyerusuallybeginswithaquestionorquestionshewantstoask.Thereaderthenknowsatoncewhattheenquiryisabout.
Generallyspeaking,weshouldkeepourenquiryshortandtothepoint;saywhatneedstobesaidandthenstop.Forinstance,ifyouareanenquirer,youshouldstateclearlyinyourenquiriestoforeignsuppliersyourexactrequirements,inclusiveofprices,discounts,termsofpaymentandthelengthoftimerequiredfordelivery.Thereisnoneedforlong,over-politephrasesandstilllessforhumbleness.Nowadays,manyfirmsevenuseaprintedenquiryforminsteadofaletter.
