IntroductiontoChineseandwesternculturaldifferences

 

Languageistheproductofsociety,isthecrystallizationofhumanhistoryandculture.Itembodiesanationalpassedfromgenerationtogenerationofsocialconsciousness,historicalculture,customsandsoonvariousaspectsofhumansocietyallfeatures.Differentculturalbackgroundandculturaltraditions,makeChineseandwesternwaysofthinking,values,codeofconductandwayoflife,etc,therearealsoconsiderableculturaldifferences.Languageisthecarrierofculture,vocabularyistheconcentrationoftheculturalinformation,isanimportantpartoflanguage,itreflectsthecultureofthedevelopmentandchange,butalsodirectlyreflecttheculturaldifferences.

InChinamorethantwothousandyearsoffeudalsocietyintheprocessofhistory,Confucianismhasdominatedthedeep-seatedstringdominance,inChinesesocietyhasaverydeepandlonginfluence.IdeaofaChinesehasalwaysbeentofallbackasaclassic,thisisintheConfucian"goldenmean"asthebasicrulesofbehavior.Theidealof"in"istheConfucianpursuit,lifetolifeConfucianbenevolence,righteousness,propriety,wisdom,letterofideologicalandmoralconceptsaseachperson'sbehaviorguide,treatpeople,wanttoconsidertemperature,quitegood,purge,thrifty,let,proudofmodest,tobeopen-minded,toopposeoverlyrevealyourselfexpression.Therefore,Chineseculturereflectstheculturalcharacteristicsofmass,themassculturalcharacteristicsarenotallowedtoputpersonalvaluestakeprecedenceovergroupinterests.

TheformationofwesternvaluescanbetracedbacktoatleasttheRenaissancemovement.TheguidingideologyoftheRenaissanceishumanism,namelyupholdingindividualasthecenter,topromoteindividualismfirst,todeveloptheirselfexpression.Theconceptof"humility"inwesternculturevalueisignored.Thepeopleworshipoflifeisthe"strong"and"hero".Capable,talentedthestronggetreused,lackofconfidencecanonlyfallbehindtheweakoreliminatedbyrelentlessly.Therefore,westernculturereflectstheindividualculturalcharacteristicsofthiskindofindividualityculturalcharacteristicsofadvocatingpersonalvaluestakeprecedenceovergroupinterestsabove.

Becauseofthis,forsomewordsbetweenChineseandwesterntwocultureswithmixedreviewshavedifferentcolour.Thewordsuchas:

ambitionitselfhasmixedreviews,twokindsofmeaning.Chineseusethederogatorysense,said"ambition",whileAmericanandBritishpeopletakeitsgood,said"ambition".Aggressiveoneword,theChinesearecommonlyusedtodescribesomeone"provocative""Aggressive",andtheAmericanpeopleareusedtodescribesomeone"Aggressiveenterprising,pioneeringspirit".

Masscultureinourcountry,attachesgreatimportancetofamilyandfriends,relationships,seeitasacellofsociety;Inwesterncountries,advocatingindependenceindependence.Chinesepeopleattachimportancetothetraditionalmanner,fatherandson,seniority,hierarchical,inAnglo-Americancountries,equalstatusbetweentheelderandtheyoungergeneration,noobjectboundaries,youngandoldtomorefriends.Chinesetraditionalideashavealwaysbeenadvocating"fourgenerations""familyreunion",sinceancienttimeshave"parents,nottravel"wordoldadage;InAnglo-Americancountries,childrenundertheageof18stilllivingathomedependontheirparentslifeisunthinkable,theymustrelyontheirownhandstoliveindependently.Also,olderparentsevenlostlifeself-careability,generalwon'tdragtheirchildren,aretheyusuallyliveinold-folk'shomes,bythesocialattention.
