Paddleboarding（划桨冲浪）isnowbecomingmoreandmorepopularintheoutdoorrecreation（娱乐）industry.Peopleareincreasinglydrawntothesportthatcanbedoneforexerciseandracingorforpaddlingoryogawithfriendsandevendogsaboard.

TakingpartinstanduppaddleboardingintheUnitedStateshasincreasednearlythreetimesfrom2013to2016,accordingtoastudyfromtheOutdoorFoundation.Thatmakesitoneofthefastestgrowingoutdoorsports,thefoundationsays.

Thesportiseasytolearnandcanbepracticedallaroundtheworld,saidJimmyBlakeney,marketingmanageratBICSUP,oneoftheleadingcompaniesmakingboards.

Andthere'swhatBlakeneycallsthe“coolfactor（要素）”thatalsodrawspeople.

“You'restandingup,you'reinyourbikini,you'rebeingseen，”Blakeneysaid.“Boardsarecool.Alotofyoungpeoplereallylikebeingonaboardmorethanaboat.”

ThemodernpaddleboardingoriginatedinHawaii,wheresurfersusedpaddlestogetoutfurtherordoexercisewhentherewerenowaves.ThesportslowlyspreadfromHawaiiandhasbeenaroundintheUnitedStatesforabout10years,Blakeneysaid.Growthreallyaccelerated（加速）aboutfiveyearsago,headded.

TheStandUpPaddleIndustryAssociationwasformedin2012tobringsupportforproducers,sellersandpeoplewhoteach,trainandorganizeraces.

KristinThomas,theindustryassociation'sdirector,saidtheversatility（多功能性）oftheboardsisahugedraw.“It'sveryeasytouseandyetcanbeasextremeasyouwantittobe.Peoplearesurfinghugewaves.Theyaredoingwhitewater，”Thomassaid.

Mostofthepeoplearerecreationaluserswhousetheboardsabout10timesayear,hesaid.Asmallernumberofpeople,oftenthetypeswhoaredrawntorunning,usetheboardsforexerciseandcompete,Blakeneysaid.
