Feelings:

IfeelreallybadforJaneasachildatherage.ImagineifIwereheratthattime,Imaygivemyselfupanddieearly.Eveniffacingsuchbadsituation,shestilllovedreading.Iadmireherverymuch.

Summary:

Janewasdraggedawaybytwoservants,BessieandMissAbbot,andlockedinthered-room.ItwastheplacewhereherUncleReeddied.Thus,thewholeatmosphereremindedherofghosts.Shecouldn’tstanditanymoreandpassedout.

Feelings:

Ican’thelpfeelingthatJanewassufferingsomekindofmentaldiseasebecauseherauntandcousins’attitudetowardsher.Poorlittlechild!

ThedoctorMr.LloydcametoseeifJanewasOK.Heaskedherwhethershewouldliketogotoschoolornotandthatwasall.Meanwhile,MissAbbottoldBessieaboutJane.HermotherwasMr.Reed’ssister.Shemarriedanearlypennilessclergyman,andherfatherwasfuriousandhadnothingmoretodowithher.Theywentawaytoworkamongpoorpeople,caughttyphoid,anddiedwhenMissJanewasababy,soshewassenttoGatesheadHall.Bessiefeltsorryafterhearingthese.

Feelings:

TyphoidfeverstruckLowoodwhenspringcame.Thus,manyofthestudentswerekeptapart.Helenwasalsoill,nottyphoidbutwithconsumption.KnowingHelenmightdiesoon,Janecouldn’thelptiptoeingtotheroomHelenstayedintobewithherasherlastcompany.TheyspentanighttogetherandHelendiedinJane’sarmduringherdream.

Soonafterthetyphoid,therewasaninquiry,whichbroughttolightthetruthaboutLowoodwithitswretchedclothing,poorfood,andbadconditions.Lowoodwasputintothecareofkindandsensibletrustees,andbothdietandclothingimproved.Aftersixyearsofstudythere,Janebecameateacher.Afterhertutorbothinstudyandinlife,MissTemple,getmarriedandleft,Janedecidedtoleaveaswell.OnherlastnightatLowood,BessievisitedherwithhersonBobby.ShebroughtthenewsaboutGatesheadtoJane.

Thevisitorsenter,andJanesatwithAdele,half-listeningtotheirnoiseandtryingtokeepAdelefromrunningdownandbotheringthem.BlancheandRochestersangasong,andJanewantedtoleave,butshe’smesmerizedbyRochester’svoice.Assoonashefinished,sheslippedoutintothehallway.RochestercameoutafterJaneandaskedwhyshedidn’tcomeandtalktohiminthedrawingroom.Hewantedhertocomeback,buthecouldtellshe’sabouttocry,sohelethergo.

Feelings:

NowIammorethansurethatJanewasinlovewithMr.Rochestercompletely.It’sobviousthatMissBlanche’sheartisnotasbeautifulasherappearance,sobasicallyMr.Rochesterwon’tchooseheroverJane.

Chapter18

Summary:

WithRochesterabsent,astrangerarrivedatThornfield.Thestranger,whosenamewasMason,claimedtobeanoldfriendofMr.Rochester’s.Laterthatday,astrangegypsywomanarrived,offeringtotelltheirfortunes.BlancheIngramwentfirst.Everyonewaitedexcitedlyforhertocomebackandtellthemwhatthewomansaid,butwhenshedidcomebackshesaidthewomanwasobviouslyafraud.Theservant,Sam,toldJanethatthegypsywomansaidsheknewthere’sanothersinglewomaninthegroup,andthatshethoughtthatmustmeanher.Jane’scuriousaboutthewoman,soshewenttoseeherandhadherownfortunetold.

Feelings:

ThoughIwonderwhoMasonwas,I’mmoreexcitedaboutthestorybetweenJaneandthat“gypsywoman”.Itcouldbereallyinteresting!
