Positiveeconomicgrowthexpectedtocontinue

BEIJING,Nov. 10(Xinhuanet)--China'sstableeconomicdevelopmentinOctoberstrengthenedeconomists'expectationsofa"happyending"totheyear,withindustrialandservicesectorsprogressingamidmoderateinflation.

TheNationalBureauofStatisticsreportedonSaturdaythatOctober'sindustrialoutputreached10.3percentcomparedwith10.2percentinSeptember.Theincreasewashigherthanthemarkethadexpectedandwasledbymanufacturing,whichincreased11.4percentfromayearearlier.

Retailsalesofconsumergoodsroseby13.3percent-thesamerateasinSeptember.

Fixed-assetinvestment,whichhasbeenthebackboneoftheworld'ssecond-largesteconomyinwithstandingtheglobalfinancialcrisis,moderatedslightlyduringthefirst10monthstoagrowthrateof20.1percent,comparedwith20.2percentfromJanuarytoSeptember.

HSBC'sChiefChinaEconomistQuHongbinsaidthereisnosignalhintingataneconomicslowdowninthefourthquarter,whichdepartsfromearlierexpectations.

"Theeconomicsituationwillnotbeworseinthelasttwomonths,"hesaid.

Meanwhile,consumerinflationinOctoberincreasedatarateof3.2percent,comparedwith3.1percentinSeptember.Therisewasmainlycausedbythe6.5percentincreaseinfoodprices,theNBSreported.

Inthefirst10months,theConsumerPriceIndexaveragewas2.6percent,whichislowerthanthe2.7percentduringthesameperiodlastyear.

TheProducerPriceIndex,anindicatorofindustrialinflation,droppedfasterinOctober,by1.5percent.Itdeclinedby1.3percentyear-on-yearinSeptember.

IndustrialBank'sChiefEconomistLuZhenweisaidconsumerinflationisexpectedtoremainmoderateforthelastquarter,andthereisnoneedtoworryaboutinflationpressurethisyear.However,industrialenterprisesstillfacegreatpressurefromexcessproductioncapacity,indicatedbythecontinuallysofteningout-the-factory-gateprices.

"Maybetheupwardturningpointoftheeconomystillhastowait,"Lusaid.

Asoverallinflationhasremainedatarelativelylowlevel,thecurrentmonetarypolicyis

expectedtoremainunchanged,economistssaid.

"Butsomefine-tuningoftheopen-marketoperationmaybeneededtohedgecapitalinflowsintothecountry,"saidQufromHSBC.

Inadditiontopositiveshort-termeconomicgrowthexpectations,economistsgreatlyanticipatethelong-termbalancingofdevelopmentandstructuralreform.

Theyagreedthata7to8percentGDPgrowthwillbea"normalspeed"forChinainthenextdecade-ashiftawayfromthepreviousdouble-digitrates.

OnthesamedaytheNBSreleasedtheOctobereconomicindicators,ameetingofthecountry'stopleaderstodiscussthereformagendaforthenextfiveto10yearsbeganinBeijing.

Theleadershipwilltrytopushmoresustainablegrowthandfindwaystosmoothlytransformthedevelopmentmodeintoaconsumption-drivenmodel.

UBS'ChiefChinaEconomistWangTaosaid:

"Weexpectmoretangibleprogressinservice-sectorderegulation,socialwelfare-systemreformandfinancial-sectorreformsinthenextcoupleofyears.

"Butwethinkmajorbreakthroughsinfiscal,landandState-ownedenterprisereformswillbeunlikelyinthenearfuture."
