Today,thereareincreasinglymorepowerfulmany-coreprocessors（MCPs）thatareintegratedintostationaryandmobiledevices,freelyprogrammableandwellsuitedformultimediaprocessing.However,therearestillmanyobstaclesandproblemswhenprogrammingmultimediaapplicationsforMCPs.InthispaperweshowthatalltheseobstaclesandproblemscanbesolvedbytreatingadevicewithanintegratedMCPinthesamewayasadistributedsystemandusingdistributedmultimediamiddlewareevenfordevelopinglocallyrunningapplications.ThisapproachcompletelyhidesallspecificaspectsofanMCPwhiletheapplicationcanfullyexploittheprocessingpowerofMCPsinlocalandevenremotedevices.

Thecomputerhasbecomeanindispensabletoolinmodernarcheologyformeasuring,recording,organizing,searching,discussing,andpresentingresults.Particularlyimportantistheuseofrealisticandinteractive3Dgraphicstechnology:

Itallowstoaccuratelycaptureandpresentthearchaeologicalevidencewithinitscurrent3Denvironmentaswellastocreate3Dmodelsofthehistoriclocationitself.Differentpossiblereconstructionscanbediscussedandcomparedtotheexistingevidencewithinthesamemodel,thusallowingtobetterevaluatescientifichypotheses.Givensuchinteractive3Dmodels,wecanthenapplyamultitudeofothersimulationtechniquesfromcomputergraphicsandotherfields（e.g.,illumination,acousticandarchitecturalsimulations）totrytorecreatethehistoricreality.UsingtheInternet,wecaninterconnectresearchgroupsondifferentlocationsbutalsomakethisdatawidelyavailableandmoreaccessibletonon-experts.InthispaperwepresenttheISRealprojecttogetherwithitsfirstresultswhichallowsfordynamicallycreate,large-scale,andphysicallyrealisticsimulatedrealitieswithsystematicsemanticannotations.
