After3days,youknow,inhousemeetingandflyingallthewayhere,andIdidn'tfeelnotquitewelltoday,butwhenIseetheentrepreneurs,whenIcametotheSMES,Ialwaysfeelexcited.BecausewhenIjointheSMEConference,Iseefromtheeyesofthedreams,thepassion,thehope;whenIjointheFortune500Conference,IamtheCEO,Iseethenumbers,Iseetherevenues,IseetheKPIs，Iseethebloodycompetition.ButamongtheSMES,yousee"Ihaveadream,Iwanttodosomething."andthathappensallthetimeandthatmakemeexcitedallthetime.TodayIthinklastyeareverypeoplesay"Wa,theeconomicisintrouble,wearealldead,whatarewegoingtodo?

"Todayeverybodyseemstobehappyandsaytheeconomycomeback.Isreallytheeconomycomeback?

Idon'tthinkso.Themoneyisgotobigcompanies,themoneygoestoinfrastructureandthemoneygobacktothestockmarket.Itseemsnobodylearnsfromthat.HowcantheeconomycomesbackiftheSMESisnotcomeback,howcantheeconomiccomebackifthedreamsarenotcomeback,thehopesnotcomeback?

Isawonethingthat,fewdays,youknow,2daysagoIhaveadinnerwithmySingaporefriendsandtheysaidthinkourgovernmentisencouragingtohavemorebabiesbecause,youknow,peopleagingandenoughkids.Ithink,we,everyeconomy,everynation,needsexplicitlytohavemoresmallmediumsizecompanies,tohavemorehopes,becauseeverybigcompanycomesfromthesmallbusiness.Ifwithouthope,withoutexpecttohavemorebabies,wearegoingtodie.WhydoIalwaysfeelexcited?

Ihave8“babies”.Inthefarpast15years,Ibuildup8companies–-sevenofthem,veryhealthy;oneofthem,Isoldit.AndIkeepthebabies,whenIlookatmybabies—Alibaba,Taobao,Alipayandyouknow,thecompanywejusthaveAliCloudwejusthaveanewbaby2monthago.Ialwaysfeelexcitedbecauseyouseethehope,youknowthisbabyisgoingtochangeme,thisbabyisgoingtochangetheworldandthecustomers.Andthat’sthethingIalwaysfeelexcited.Ifyouwanttobehappy,havemorebabies.Ifyouarethegovernment,wantyoureconomytobegood,havemoreSMES.Thesearethedreams,thesearethehope,thesearethefuture.Sothisisallwewanttosay,butenough,we’vebeencrying,andsaypleasegiveussupport.ButalltheSMES,askyourselfonequestion,wearenotcryingbabies.Webelievewearetomorrow’sGoogle,webelievewearetomorrow’seBay,YouTobe,webelievewearetomorrow’sUPS.Ifwebelieveweare,wecanbe;ifyoudon’tbelieve,youneverbe.Weheardalotofgovernmentsay（wegiveyou）“Letmeknowwhatwecando?

AstheresearchIgot,AlibabaGroup（Alibabastatistic）87%oftheSMES,whattheyneed,thefundisbelow60thousandUS$.Buttheygavetheloan20millionstosomebigcompanies,theyarenotSMES,theyarenotthehopes.But,IthinkalltheSMESsay,（that）nobodycanhelpyou.My8companies,Ialwayssay,nobodyhelpus,onlywecanhelpourselves.Don’trelyonthegovernment,don’trelyonthebank,forgetaboutthat.Relyonyourfriends,relyonrelatives,relyonyoursmalldreamsandalwayskeepthatthinginhead–I’vebeentryingveryhardtogetloansfrombanks,alwaystrouble.Withinthepastyears,Ievendidnotborrowonecentfrombanks,mykidsgrowup,Idon’tknowwhy.Thebankalwayssay“becausewedon’thaveenoughinformationfromtheSMES.”Tellme,anyfortune500,anybigbank,companies’present,CEOsgototheSMES’summit.No!

Sobanksandgovernments,let’sthinkaboutsomethingnew.Newfinancialstructurethatcanhelpthosemillionsofhopecompaniesthatneedonly50thousandUS$.Whatistherightstructure,whatistherightorganizationtosupportthem.That’sthethingweshouldthinkabout.

SotheotherthingIwanttosharewithyouhereisalwaysIbelieve“thesmallisbeautiful.”Andthisfinancialcrisisisadisastertobigcompanies.Thisworldinlast20thcenturyit’sbiggerisbetter.Youhavebig（youknow）factory,bigfund,everythingisbig，isgood.Thiscentury,inthe21stcentury,Ialwaysbelievesmallisbeautiful.It’snothowfastyoumachines，it’snothowmanyequipmentsyouhave,itishowquicklyyoucanchangeyourselftomeetthemarket.Becausetheinformationtime,Internetandtechnologymakeadifference.SotheworldITlastcenturyisdesignedforthemanufacturers.ThiscenturyITisdesignedtomakeahelptotheconsumers.SoIthinkthisisadisasterforthebigcompany,butitisagreatopportunityforsmallbusinesses.Forthisfinancialcrisis,weseealotofbigcompanies,wewouldneverthoughtdie,AIG,GE,it’sliketheempire,howcouldthishappen.Youknow,allthe,thebigcarcompanywhichwerespect,wealwayswanttobethere.Buttoday,theyalldied.Let’slookatalltheSMES,westillfeelpainful,butwearehappyinourheartbecausewearestillsurvive.Weheardsomanystoriesaboutbigcompaniesgivingtrouble.AndIseethesociety,thegovernmentpaytoomuchattentiontothesetroublemakers.Theyarethetroublemakersandwegavethemenoughsupport,letthemdie,it’sthetimeforthemtodiebecausetheymaketroubles.Everybigcompany,theyhavedifferentdisaster,differentproblems,butalltheSMES,theyhavethesameproblems.Theyneedunderstandingandsupport.Thisworldisnotfair,Iknow,sothat’swhyIwanttoencouragealltheSMEShere,I’mtheSME,Ihave8kids,IstillthinkI’mSME,IstillbelieveI’msmall.BecausewhenIamsmall,IknowlcanbebigandIhatetobebig,unfortunately.WhenIwasasmallcompany,onlyhave20people,Ifeltsoexcited.Well,Icancalleveryemployee’snamesandeverytime,everything,Iwanttochange,Icanchangeinhalfoneminute.Now,terrible.WhenIwas20yearsold,myfriendstoldme“youcompanyisnotbigenough.Ifyouarebig,youarelikeabigboss.Youareeasy,youcancontrolyourtime.”No,mytimeisnotcontrolledbymyself,mytimeiscontrolledbyallthemeetings,sectary,KPI,shareholders,allthethings.It’smuchtougherthanyouaresmall.SoIalwaysbelievethefirstdayloveiseverybeautiful.Believethefirstdaylove,whenyouaresmall,atleastyoucanhavetimetogoouttocinemawithyourwifeandkidsandenjoywonderfulview.Butwhenyouarebig,youalwaysgototheboardmeetings.

”IneverpreparePPT,youknow,I’mnotgoodattechnology.IwastrainedtobeahighschoolteacherandtheonlythingIcanknowaboutcomputer,funnything,I’mrunningoneofthebiggeste-commercecompaniesinChina,intheworld,butIknow,theonlythingIcanknowaboutcomputeristosendandreceiveemailandbrows.That’sit.BecauseIalwaysthinktechnologyisforthepeople,peopleisnotworkingforthetechnology.ButtodayIcomehereasanentrepreneur，Ipreparedeveryday.I’mnotpreparedforthePPT,becauseeverytimewhenIusethePPT,somethingwrong,Icannotuseit.SoIcomeheretotellmyoldexperiences,Iwanttosharewithyouas8kids’fatherwhatIdidwhenIhavetrouble.WhenIhavetrouble,Ialwaysremindme3things:

focusonyourcustomer,serveyouremployees,learnfromyourcompetitors.Thesearethekey,thethingyoulearned.Focusonyourcustomer,everybodytoadytalkaboutshareholderNO.1,Ihatethat.Ithinkit’salwayscustomerNO.1.it’sthecustomergiveyouthemoney.It’sthecustomergiveyoutheinnovations.It’sthecustomerthatmakesyouhappy.Year1999and2000,whenInternetbubbleburst,wecannotgetanymoney,wedidnothaverevenue,wehavenothing,buteverydayencouragedmegoonwasthethanksfrommycustomers,said“Jack,Alibaba,keepon.Becauseyouhelpedus,somedaywewillhelpyou”.That’sthedreamIhad.Sotoday,webelieveshareholderNO.1youonlythinkaboutmakingnumbers.Youonlythinkaboutrevenues,youonlythinkabouthowtomakeyoustockmarketgoup.Iletyouknow,noshareholderscanbetrusted.Itellyouthetruth.Well,oursharestockprice,2yearsago,welisted,13.50HongKongdollars.Beforethe…alotofshareholderscametosay“Jack,wearelong-termshareholders,pleasegiveusmoreshares,wewillkeepit.”Whenthefinancialcrisiscame,thedayweIPO,13.50HongKongdollars,wewentup40dollarsin24hourswithoutdoinganythinggood.Andthenfinancialcrisiscame,40dollarsto3dollarswithoutdoinganythingbad,theyallgone.Mostshareholdersaresharetraders.Howcanyoutrustonthem?
