   Dr.Rosenbergersaid,“Ifindsomanypeoplesay,Thishappenstome,butIthoughtIwastheonlyone.IthoughtIwasodd.”Itseemsthatthesyndromeparticularlyaffectspeopleatthebeckandcallofmobilephonesorpagers.A2010studybyMichaelRothbergandcolleaguesfoundthatnearly70percentofdoctorsatahospitalinMassachusettssufferedphantomvibrations.AmorerecentstudyofUScollegestudentsfoundthefigurewasashighas90percent.

   Whiletheoddfeelingiswidespread,itdoesnotseemtobeconsideredagraveproblem.Dr.Rosenbergersaid,“It’snotactuallyasyndromeinatechnicalsense.That’sjustthenamethat’sgotstucktoit."Headded,“Only2percentofpeopleconsideritaproblem."

   Itsparentcompany,Japan-basedMoriBuildingCo.Ltd,establishedtheShanghaisubsidiaryastheoperatorresponsibleforthisambitiousproject.Thedesign,whichisundergoingrevisioninJapan,willaccommodateinternationalhigh-techbusinesses,departmentstores,artgalleries, clubsandafive-starhotel.UnlikethegloomyeconomiesoftheUnitedStates,EuropeandJapan,Chinaenjoysastronggrowthwithbrighterprospects,Takeuchisaid.

   MorecapitalandbusinessesareexpectedtoflowintoShanghai,whichaimstobecomeaworldcentrefortradeandthefinancialindustry—withLujiazuiasitsshowpiece.

   ThelayoutofLuijiazuiincludesthreetallbuildings,oneofwhichisthecompletedJinmaoTower,eachrisingabove400metres,asdesignedbylocalgovernmentafterholdinganinternationaldesigncompetitionearlylastdecade.Otherbuildingsnearbyfallinheightgradually,creatingaspecialshapeagainsttheskyline.TheShanghaiWorldFiancialCentrewillbebuiltasthepeakofthemountain.
