Governmentsponsorshipforartsisacontroversialissue,especiallywhenthestateisconfrontedwithbudgetproblems.Thosewhoobjecttopublicfundsforartsbelievethatmoneyshouldbedivertedtotheconstructionofpublicfacilities.Iamoftheopinionthatthegovernmentshouldtakecitizens’benefitsintoconsiderationandadjustthespendingonartorinfrastructuresaccordingly.

Itisfirstimportanttorealizethatartisanessentialcomponentofculturallegacy,sotheprotectionanddevelopmentofarthasimportantimplicationstoculturaldiversity.Intermsofpainting,forexample,styles,genres,toolandmaterialsdifferfromculturetoculture.Anartformislikelytodisappear,ifitisnotwellprotected.Besides,someworksofartsuchasgraffiti,sparkpeople’simaginationandprovidethemwithanovelperspectivetoviewtheworld.Artcandevelopacultureinwhichpeoplepursueitasahobby.Furthermore,publicartbooststheappealofthebuiltenvironment,whichisreflectedinthediversityofarchitectureandlandscaping.

Despitetheimportanceofart,publicfacilitiesdeservemoreofgovernmentspendingthanart.Citizensaremoreinterestedintheavailabilityofpublicfacilities,aswaterandelectricitysupply,schools,librariesandroads,whichhaveadirectimpactontheirdailylives.Bycontrast,formostpeople,sculptures,paintingsoroperasareluxuryitems,whichcannotbringanytangiblebenefittothem.Anotherreasonisthattheartcansometimesyieldhighreturnsandthereforesucceedinreceivingbusinesssponsorship.Thisisparticularlythecasewhentheartsincludemusic,movies,operasandcreativearts.Therefore,itispointlesstosupporttheuseofpublicfundsforthispurpose,ifbasicfacilitiesareunderfunded.

Inthelightofthefactsoutlinedabove,governmentinvestmentintheartsisessentialtoculturaldiversity,thedevelopmentofpersonalhobbiesandthevisualappealofthebuiltenvironment.However,inthosecountrieswhoseinfrastructureisinadequate,governmentfundingfortheartsmayhavetobereduced.

 

Insteadofaskingthegovernmenttobearthecostofhighereducation,studentsshouldpaytuitionfeesthemselves.Doyouagreeordisagree?

Thegovernmenthaslongbeenthemajorfundsofuniversityeducation.Thosepeoplewhosupportgovernmentspendingoneducationthinkthatsomestudentsdonotenrollbecauseoflearningcosts.Myviewisthatstudents’personalsituationsshouldbeconsidered,beforethegovernmentdecideswhethertoofferfreeeducation.

Itisworthnotingthatuniversityeducationisthekeytoclosing/bridgingtheincomegap.Therearenumerousstudents,especiallythosefromlowincomefamilies,whocannotaffordeducationalexpenses.Forexample,studentswhostudylawormedicalsciencemayspendmanyyearsintheuniversity,makinguniversityeducationanexpensiveoptiontothem.Becauseoffinancialconstraints,peopleoflowsocio-economicstatusareatadisadvantageintermsofeducationalopportunitiesandcareerdevelopment.Bycontrast,childrenofhighersocioeconomicstatusaremorelikelytoadvancetheireducationandfindwell-paidjobseventually.Asaconsequence,thewideningincomegapmayadduncertaintytosocialstability.

Higherparticipationratesintertiaryeducationarealsovitaltoeconomicandsocialdevelopment,becauseproductivitywillbeimprovedandcitizens’moralswillbestrengthened.Eventhoughgovernmentsponsorshipcaninspirepeopletoreceivetertiaryeducation,itcanalsocausethewasteofpublicresources.Freeeducationmaybeareasonwhymanystudentsarereluctanttocompletetheircoursesandentertheworkforceattheearliestdate.Itnotonlyadds/imposesaburdenonthecountrybutalsoaffectsstatefundingforothersectors,suchasprimaryandsecondaryeducation.Letalonestudents’contributionallowsuniversitiestoupgradefacilitiesandrecruitwell-qualifiedlecturers,bothimportanttostudents’academicachievement.

Tosummarize,thegovernmentshouldprovidefinancialsupportaccordingtostudents’needstoensurethattheyhaveaccesstoeducation.However,tuitionfeesareapplicabletomoststudents,especiallythosefrommiddletohighincomefamilies,asithelpsmaintainthequalityoftertiaryeducation.

 

Economicprogressisonewaytomeasurethesuccessofonecountry,whilesomepeoplethinkthatthereareotherfactors.Whatotherfactorsshouldbeconsidered?

Amongthesefactors,doyouthinkthatanyfactorismoreimportantthantheothers?

Therapidgrowthofemergingeconomieshasfuelledcontroversyoverhowtodefinesuccessfulcountries.Regardingthedistinguishingfeaturesofsuccessfulcountries,peoplemighthavesomesharedopinionsbuttheydonotreachanyagreement.Ithinkthatbesideseconomicdevelopment,otherfactorsshouldbetakenintoconsideration.

Firstly,socialwelfareisasignificantfactor,whichhasrelevancetopeople’ssatisfactionwithlife.Thereisampleevidencethatinmanydevelopingcountries,poorpeopledonotbenefitfromeconomicgrowth,whichisreflectedinthewideninggapbetweenhavesandhave-nots.Nationalwealthisnotdistributedevenly,asthehealthcareserviceandtheeducationsystemareunderfunded.Amongotherproblems,theever-increasingcostoflivingandtheescalatingclassconflictareparticularlypronounced.Itisalsoimportanttorealizethattheeconomicdevelopmentofsomecountriesisachievedatenvironment’sexpenses.Thishasadestructiveeffectonthenaturalenvironmentandcausesthespreadofdifferentdiseases.

Consideringthesefactors,economicgrowthshouldnotberegardedasthemaincriterionformeasuringacountry’ssuccess.Thereisagrowingrecognitionthatasuccessfulcountrycanensurethefairdistributionofwealthsocitizens’needscanbesatisfied.Peopleareabletoacquirenecessitiessuchasfood,housing,education,medicalcareandsoforthataffordableprices.Indecidingwhetheracountryislivable,itisalsoimportanttoconsiderairquality,accesstocleanwater,wastedisposal,sewagemanagementandtransportinfrastructure.Inaddition,wemusttakeintoaccounttheissueofwhetherornottheeconomicdevelopmentissustainable,namely,whetherthecountrycanprovideadequateresourcestofeedfuturegenerations.

Inbrief,itisprematuretoequatewealthwithsuccess.Livingstandardsandsustainabledevelopmentareamongthosefactorsthatcanbetakenintoconsiderationwhenacountry’ssuccessisevaluated.

 

Itisarguedthatwearelivinginathrow-awaysociety:

peoplethrowawaywhattheyuseindailylife,insteadofrecyclingorreusingthem.Whyhasthishappenedandhowtoaddressthisissue?

Thepastdecadehasseenamarkedincreaseinthepublic’sawarenessofenvironmentalissue.Theenvironmentalimpactoftheuseanddisposalofconsumergoodshasbecomeacauseforconcern.Itisimportanttofocusonhowthisproblemhashappenedandhowtosolvethisproblem.

Themainreasonbehindtheincreasedconsumptionofproductsliesinthefactthatpeoplehavehigherincome.Theimprovementofproductivity,aswellastechnologicalinnovation,hasreducedthecostofproductionsubstantially,soproducts,includingpackagedfoodsandhouseholdproducts,areincreasinglyaffordable.Moreover,people’sfastpaceoflifeaccountsfortheirdependenceondisposableproducts.Thelifespanofdurableproducts(suchasmobilephonesandcomputers)hasbeenshortened,inlargepartduetothefactthattheseproductsarerenewedrapidly.Furthermore,consumersareindifferenttotheconsequencesoftheirbehavior.Thecontinuouslygrowingdemandforproductsresultsinenormousenergyconsumptionaswellasasubstantialincreaseinwasteandpollution.

Astheoverconsumptionofproductsispervasive,itisimportanttotakesomemeasurestomitigatepollution.Onemainstrategyistheuseofbio-degradedmaterials,whichcanreducethedamagecausedbyplasticbags,packagesandmetalstotheenvironment.Inaddition,emphasisshouldbeplacedonpeople’senvironmentalawareness,asitchangesthewaysinwhichpeopleuseanddisposeofproducts.Forexample,peopleshouldbeencouragedtokeepoldproducts,aslongastheseproductsfunctionappropriately.Environmentalgroupsshoulddisseminatetheknowledgeofhowtorecycledisposablegoodsandhouseholdappliances.

Inconclusion,people’sattitudetowardconsumptionandtheincreaseindisposableincomearemainreasonsbehindexcessiveconsumptionofdisposableitems.Toaddressthisproblemsuccessfully,thetoppriorityistoraisepeople’sawarenessofenvironmentalprotection,whichcanleadtoachangetotheirlifestyles.

 

Volunteerworkorganizedbymiddleschoolsbringsmorebenefitsthanproblems.Towhatextentdoyouagreeordisagree?

Volunteerworkhaswidelybeenpromotedinmanyschoolsandevenrecognizedasarequirementforagraduation.Despitethefactthatvolunteerworkhasitsdownside,itisbeneficialforparticipantsandthecommunityasawhole.Itisclearthatstudentscanimprovetheirskillsandenrichtheirsocialexperiencebyparticipatingincommunityservice.

Whenprovidingcommunityservice,studentswillencounternumerousproblemsandchallengeswhicharerareatschool,suchashowtointroducecommunityservicetotheelderlyandhowtoassistchildreninschooling.Volunteerworkenablesstudentstoboosttheirconfidenceandimproveproblem-solvingabilities,althoughtheyaresometimesnotawareofthisbenefit.Asecondbenefitisthatstudentscanintegratetheiracademicexperiencewiththeirpr
