ThesurveysaidthecelebritiesthatstudentsaspiredtomostlywereDavidandVictoriaBeckhamwholiveinLosAngelesnow.SoccerplayerBeckhamisonthetopofthesurveywhileinsecondplace,withalmostathirdofthesurvey’svotes,washis33-year-oldpopstarwife.

Almosthalfofthe300teacherssurveyedsaidpupilstriedtolooklikeorbehavelikethecelebritiestheymostadmired,withsomegirlsevendressing“unsuitably”.

 “Wearenotsurprisedabouttheinfluenceofcelebritycultureinschools—itreflectsthecurrentmediapassionwithcelebritiesandtheeffectofcelebritycultureonsocietyasawhole,”ATLgeneralsecretaryMaryBoustedsaidinastatement.

“Celebritiescanhaveapositiveeffectonpupils.Theycanraisepupils’aspirationsanddesiresforthefuture.However,celebrityculturecanspreadtheideathatcelebritystatusisthegreatestachievementandreinforcethebeliefthatothercareerchoicesarenotasvaluable,”saidoneprimaryschoolteacher.“Toomanyofthepupilsbelievethatschoolsuccessisunnecessary,becausetheywillbeabletogetfameandfortunequiteeasilythrougharealityTVshow.”
