acartridge,aBluetoothreaderandanapp.Toputitsimply,thecartridgecontainscarbonnanotubes(纳米管)thatreacttolead.ThisreactionisthenregisteredbytheBluetoothreader,whichsendsasignaltoamobileappthatcantellyouimmediatelyifyourwaterissafetodrink.

We knowthatoursmartphonesareexpertly-designeddistractiondevicesthatweakenoureffortstoresist.But,wealsoknowthatresistanceisimportantifwe’reevergoingtofindaworkablemiddlegroundwithourphones–andarecent hasservedupanotherreasontostrengthenourresolve.

Thereasonofferedbytheresearchersisn’tmerelybecausedigitaldevicesareinherentlyengaging(迷人的),butbecause oursmartphonesareattentiongatesintosomanyotherattention-catchingareas,eachpullingourmentalenergyindifferentdirections.  

Thisresearchstressesthatweignoredtheenergyreductionfromusingoursmartphones,andthatwewereover-confidentaboutwhatourbrainscanhandle. Wealsooverlookedtheemotionalconnectionwe'ddevelopedwithourphones. It'snolongerjustadevice.It'sacompanion.
