ConnecttheUSBcableshippedwiththeWesternDigitalHardDrivetotheUSBportofthecomputerasthepicturefollows:

Putthedrivertotheflatplaceanduntiethecable.

Secondstep:

Connectthecable’sonesidetothemainframecomputer’sslotwhichhasenlargedinthepicture.

Thirdstep:

ConnecttheothersideofUsbslottothedriver’scorrespondingslot.

3.ThedriverwiilAutomaticallyinstall

InthesupportingoperatingsystemsfortheWesternDigitalPortableHardDrive,thereisnoneedtoinstalladriver,forthesystemwillautomaticallyidentifyit.Aftertheconnectioniscomplete.thesystemwillprompt“FindNewHardware”andautomaticallyinstallandupdatethedriver.Whentheinstallationismadeforthefirsttime,thisprocesswillneedaboutoneminutebasedondifferentconfigurationsofthecomputer.Thecompletelyconnectionisasthepicturefollows:

Theidentificationperiodofsubsequenttimewillbeshorterthanthatofthefirsttime.Afterthesystemautomaticallyinstallsthedriver,thenewdriveletterwillappearin“MyComputer”.Andmeanwhileaplug-and-playdeviceiconwillappearinthesystemtray.

4.removetheDriver

Clickthe“SafelyRemoveHardware”iconinthesystemtray,andselectthe“SafelyRemoveUSBMassStorageDevice”option.Afterthedevicestopsrunning,DisconnecttheUSBcablefromthecomputer.

1.PutthediskintoCD-driver

2.Clickthe“setup.exe”.Theprogramwillinstallautomaticallyandappeardialogboxasfollows:

Ifyoucannotconnectwiththeharddrive,youcanclick“Deluidrv.exe”twiceandyou’llseethedialogboxasfollows:

1.AftertheWesternDigitalHardDriveisnormallyinstalled,thesystemstillcannotidentifythePortableHardDrive.Why?

1）ExaminewhetherthePortableHardDriveisproperlyconnectedtotheUSBport;

2）PerhapsthereisanelectricalshortinthepowersupplyattheUSBportofthecomputer（e.g.,thehardwaremaycontinuouslymakeacrackingnoise）.Pleasebuythe5v1Apoweradapterforconnection;

3）PleaseexaminetheUSBcontrolleroptionintheBIOStoconfirmthisoptionEnabled.Forspecificsettings,pleaserefertothemainboardBIOSinstructions;

4）ExaminewhethertheUSBsystemiscorrectlyinstalled.PleaserefertorelevantoperatingsystemGuideforcorrectinstallationandsettingoftheUSBsystem.

2.Whythecapacityshownonthecomputerisdifferentfromtheharddiskspecifications?

Theharddiskmanufacturersmarkthestoragecapacityoftheharddiskbasedonthedecimalsystem,sothecapacityunitoftheharddiskis:

1KB=1024B;

1MB=1024KB;

1GB=1024MB;

1TB=1024GB

Sincethecalculationmethodsabovearedifferent,thenominalharddiskcapacityoftheproductisthereforealsodifferentfromthatasshowninsidethecomputer.Forexample,theharddiskwiththenominal40GB（thedecimalsystem）capacity,ifconvertedasinsidethecomputer,itisapproximately37.25GB（thebinarysystem）.
