  Tellingmaleandfemalespidersapartiseasilydonebylookingattheirpalps.Maleshaveswollenendstotheirpalpswhichmakesthemlookasiftheyarewearingboxinggloves,theseareoftenstrangeshapesiflookedatwithahandlens.Femaleshavenormallookingpalpsthatarenotswollenattheends.

ThelargestspideristheGoliathspider,thefemaleofwhichgrowstoreachalegspanofteninches.ThelargestspiderinBritainistheCardinalspiderwhichisaclosecousinofTimTegenaria.Femalescanachievealegspanoffourandahalfinches.ItisknownastheCardinalspiderasitwascommoninHamptonCourtwhenCardinalWolseylivedthere.Thesightoftheselongleggedspiderswanderingaroundthepalaceatnightusedtofrightenhim.Sofar32,000differentkindsofspiderhavebeendiscoveredfromallovertheworld.Britainhas630differentkindsofspiderofwhich250aretinyMoneyspiders.Thesmallestofwhichhasabodylessthanonemillimeterlong.
