一些词和词组的用法。
1. follow通常做动词，表示“跟随，听从，注意，听清”。
例如：
Ifollowedhimupthehill. 我跟着他上山。
Youshouldfollowthedoctor’sadvice. 你应该听医生的忠告。
Weshallcloselyfollowthedevelopmentofthesituation. 我们将密切注意形势的发展。
Didyoufollowwhattheteachersaid?
你听清老师说什么了吗？
常见的词组有asfollows。
例如：
Thefulltextreadsasfollows. 全文如下……
2. allthetime表示“一直，总是”。
例如：
Whyareyoumakingthesamemistakesallthetime?
为什么你总是在犯同样的错误？
3. rushforsomething表示“迫切需要，抢购，蜂拥前往”。
在西方国家，圣诞节前的购买热潮被称之为“theChristmasrush”
4. turn可以作为不及物动词，表示“变成，（树叶等）变色，变质”等。
例如：
Whenautumncomes,theleavesturnyellow. 秋天到来的时候，树叶变黄。
Herfaceturnedredwhentheteacherpraisedher. 老师夸奖她时，她的脸红了。
5. sellsomethingfor… 以……价格售出某物
sellout 售完，卖光
6. fine除了作为形容词表示“美好的，优良的，杰出的，精美的”，还可以做名词表示“罚款，罚金”，另外还能作为动词表示“罚款”。
例如：
Don’tspitaround,otherwise,you’llbefined. 不要随地吐痰，否则你会被罚款。
7. harm可以做动词或名词使用，表示“损害，伤害，危害”。
例如：
Where’stheharmintrying?
试试又何妨？
Doingexercisewilldoyounoharm. 锻炼对你没害处。
8. continue是动词，表示“继续，延续”。
例如：
Tobecontinued. 未完待续。
Theraincontinuedforaweek. 雨连续下了一周。
9. whether表示“是否，是不是”，是一个连词，它和if一样都可以引导宾语从句，这两个引导词常常可以交换使用。
但是当宾语从句有ornot等选择部分时，从句的引导词只能用whether。
另外，if还可以引导条件状语从句，而whether没有此功能。
例如：
Iwonderif/whetheryouwillcomeandjoinus. 我想知道你会不会来。
NooneknewwhetherthatwalletwasMary’sorFrank’s. 没人知道钱包是玛丽的还是弗兰克的。
Ifhearriveshome,pleaseletmeknow. 他到家了请通知我。
