TheForestofTabletsislocatedintheConfucianTempleonSanxueJieinXi’an,itismorethan900yearsold,datingbacktoSongdynasty.ItwastheConfuciantempleatfirst.Today,thisisaprofessionalartmuseumwhichcollectsstudiesanddisplaysvariousStelesandstonesculptures.IfyouareinterestedinChineseartandcalligraphy,therearesomeinterestingobjectsondisplay.Youshouldnotmissit.

InfrontofthefirstdisplayroomistheTabletPavilion.Thisistherepresentativeofthismuseum.ItisspeciallybuiltfortheClassiconFilialPietywhichisthelargestandearliestoneinthemuseum.Itwasengravedin745ADandannotatedbyLiLongji.FilialPietymeansbenicetoyourparents.ItisatraditionalideaofChinesepeople.LiLongjiwrotethistoshowhiswishtoadministratethecountrybytheprinciplesofFilialPiety.Thetabletsaremadeupoffourpiecesofstoneandabaseunderit,thereforeitisliterallycalledtheStone-basedClassiconFilialPiety.

ExhibitionHallOnemainlydisplaysthetextoftwelveConfucianclassicscarvedon14steles.ThetwelveworksincludetheAnalectsofConfucius,theBooksofChanges,theBooksofSongsandsomeothers.Thesetwelveclassicsaremust-doreadingsforeducatedonesofChina'sfeudalsociety.

HallTwoexhibitscalligraphysteleswrittenbytheoutstandingcalligraphersofChina'sancientTangDynasty.Chineseclassicalcalligraphyreacheditsgoldenageduringthistime.YoucanfindworksofOuyangXun,YanZhenqing,ZhangXuandmanyothernotedancientcalligraphersinthishall.

HallThreealsoexhibitsworksofcalligraphy.Hereyoucanseefivevarietiesofcalligraphy,sealcharacters,officialscript,regularscript,runninghandandcursivehand.Fromthesesteles,visitorscanhaveaclearideaofthedevelopmentofChinesewriting.

HallFourcontainsvariousstonesculptures.200worksfromtheHanDynastytotheTangDynastyaredisplayed,includingportraitsofConfucius,BuddhistscripturesfromtheTangDynastyandmuchmore.

HallFive,HallSixandHallSevenarealsowellworthavisit.HallFivedisplaysstelesengravedwithhistoricalrecordsfromtheSongDynastytotheQingDynasty.ManyfamousandsignificantpoemsaredisplayedinHallSixandHallSeven.

Now,wegettheGalleryofstonesculptures.Thisgallerywasbuiltin1963.Ithousesmorethan70stonesculpturesofShaanxiProvince.Thesepiecesofartclassifiedintotwogroups:

mausoleumcarvingsandreligiouscarvings.

NowwecametothelastsectionwithbothBuddhistandTaoistsculptures.TheBuddhistsculpturesinthegalleryareallfineworksofartintermsofstyle,figureandworkmanship.

QinShihuangTerracottaWarriorsandHorsesMuseum

简介TheTerraCottaWarriorsandHorsesisregardedasoneofthewondersoftheworld.Itwasdiscoveredin1974intheeasternsuburbsofXi'anbylocalfarmerswhentheywerediggingawell.Nowadays,workisstillongoingatthissite,whichisaround1.5kilometerseastofEmperorQinShiHuang'sMausoleum,LintongCounty.ItisamustseeattractioninXi’annow.

秦始皇EmperorQinShihuang,hadYingashissurnameandZhengashisgivenname.ShihuangmeanstheFirstemperor.HebecamethekingoftheQinstateatage13,andtookthepowerofthestateatageof22.Heunifiedthewholecountryin221BCandestablishedthefirstfeudalempireinChina’shistory.Tostrengthentheunificationofthewholecountry,hestandardizedthescript,thecoinage,theweightsandmeasures,andcodifiedthelaw.

秦始皇陵Histombisnotveryfarfromhere,only1.5kilometersthewestofthemuseum.Itisalsooneofthelargesttombsinchina.Accordingtotherecord,whentheemperorisjust13yearsold,hebegantobuiltthetombforhimself.Youknow,atthattimepeoplebelievedthatwhenapersondied,hissoulwasstillexisted.Soheshouldneedeverythingashewasstillalive.Ittookmorethan38yearstoconstructEmperorQin’stomb.

一号坑Sonow,pleasefollowmetoseethepitNo.1.PitNo.1wasfirstdiscoveredin1974byalocalfarmerwhowasdiggingawell.Itisthelargestoneamongthe3pits,coveringanareaabout12,000squaremeters,200meterslongfromeasttowest,62meterswidefromnorthtosouthand5metersdeep.Itisanearth-and-woodstructureintheshapeofatunnel.Theentirefloorispavedwithbricks.Thereare10sectionwallsthatdividedthewholepitinto11corridors.Aboveeachsectionwall,itcarriesawoodenbeam.Abovethebeam,it’samatandthen3metersofsoil.

发掘情况Butmorethan2000yearshaspassed,becauseofthenaturaldestroyandabigfire,mostofthewarriorsandhorseshasbrokenintopieces.Ittookalotoftimeandenergytostickthemonebyone.Now,inpitNo.1,wehaveonlyrestored1,087brokenfigures.ThisisaboutonefifthofthewholenumberofpitNo.1.

Allthewarriorsandhorsesaremadeofspecialclay.Andtheprocessofmakingitisverycomplex.EachTerra-cottaWarriorlooksdifferentfromalltheothers.Withweaponsinhands,theyvaryinheight,uniformandhairstyle.

三号坑No.3Pitcoversanareaof520m2withonlyfourhorses,onechariotand68warriors.AndatoolcalledShuwhichwereusedforhighrankofficialswasfoundinthispit.Soitissupposedtobethecommandpostofthebattleformation.

铜车马Besidesthewarriors,twolargescale-modelsofbronzechariotsandhorsescameunearthedinDecember,1980,about20meterseastofthemausoleum.Thetwofacedwestinlarge7-meter-longand2.3meterswidewoodencoffins.Theywerethoughttobehalftheactualsizeandweresupposedtoserveasthevehiclefortheemperor'sinspectiontoursinhisafterlife.Thecolorfulsquarecarriagesaredecoratedwithgeometricandcloudpatterns.Coachmenarmedwithswordsguardthechariotsonbothsides.

Thebronzechariotmodelsareregardedasthenation'sgreatarcheologicaltreasures.Theserepresentthelargestfindsofearliestdelicatefinebronzeworkanywhereintheworld.

TheGreatMosqueliesinthenorthwestoftheDrumTower.Itisamajorspotforreligiousactivitiesofover60,000MoslemsinXi’an.UnliketheArabicmosques,theGreatMosquehereinXi’anisablendoftraditionalChineseandIslamicarchitectures.SotheGreatMosqueisakeyNationalhistoricalsiteunderspecialprotection.

中国穆斯林的历史Beforewegetintothemosque,letmeintroducethehistoryofIslaminChinafirst.DuringtheTangdynasty,ArabicmerchantsandtravelerscametothenorthwestofchinathroughtheSilkRoad.Manyofthemsettlementdownandmarriedthelocalwomen,butitwasjustasmallpopulation.ThebiggestimmigrationofMoslemstochinatookplaceinthe13thcentury.Fromthenon,theMoslemsinchinaiscalledtheHuipeople.Inthe14thcentury,alotofMoslemstookpartinZhuYuanzhang’suprisingandmadegreatcontributionstothefoundingoftheMingdynasty.SothegovernmentbegantoprotecttheIslamandsetupmosquesinpraiseoftheMoslemsfortheirfeats.
