Perhapsthebiggestchangeonmystreetisthefactthatthecityisgoingtoturnmyprecioushillintoseverallotsfornowhomes.Forsixteenyears,theviewoutofmykitchenwindowhasbeenaviewofthathill.Thehillwasafundamentalpartofmychildhoodlife;itwasthehubofsocialactivityforthechildrenofmystreet.Wespenthourstherebuildingforts,sledding,andplayingtag.Theviewoutofmykitchenwindownowisverydifferent;itisoneoftractorsanddumptruckstearingupthehill.Whenthehillgoes,theneighborhoodwillnotbethesame.Itisapieceofmychildhood.Itisavisualreminderofbeingakid.Withoutthehill,mystreetwillbejustanotherpeainthepod.
Therewasatimewhenmystreetwasmyworld,andIthoughtmyworldwouldneverchange.Butsomethinghappened.Peoplegrowup,andpeoplegrowold.Placeschanges,andwiththechangecomestheheartacheofknowingIcannevergobacktothetimesIloved.Inayearorso,
