IhavebeenstudyingEnglishforabout10years.ItshouldnotbetheNo.1taskinmyuniversityagenda,buttoomanyfailuresforcedmetodoso.IenteredoneofthemostfamousuniversitiesinChinawiththealmostlowestEnglishmarkamongallmystudents.Iwasreallydisappointedaboutthat.AlthoughIwasnotgoodatEnglishwhenIwasinthemiddleschool,itwasnotatleastabouttheaverage.Ihadnostrengthtofacethefrustration.Afterasemester’sstudyIwasthelowestindeed.Ihavenevercriedforstudybefore,butthistimeIshedtears.SincethenImadeupmymindtopassCET-6beforemygraduation.

GlancedbacktomyEnglishstudyingexperience,Irealizedthatinterestisoneofthekeyfactorstograspknowledge.IstudyEnglishonlyfortheexaminationbefore,butnotthelanguageitself.Thatistheweakestpointofme.Imustovercomeitsoastorealizemydream.Imadeaplan:

readonestoryuntilIcanreciteiteachday;listentothetapesrelatedtothebooksaswell.Englishisnotsodisgustingformenow.IwillpersistindoingsoevenafterIpassCET-6.IwishmyEnglishwouldbeasgoodasmynativelanguageinthefuture.

2.WhatIsHappiness

Whatishappiness?

Perhapsdifferentpeoplehavedifferentviewsonhappiness.

Somepeoplethinkthatmaterialsatisfactionwouldbringhappiness.Butinfacttheyhaveoverlookedthefactthattruehappinesscomesfromtherealizationofwhatyouhavedoneinyourpartinadvancementofotherpeople’slifeaswellasyourown.Somepeopletryeverymeanstomakemoneyattheexpenseofothersinterests.Thesepeopleharmotherstobenefitthemselves.Theythinkthegreatsumofmoneytheymake,thehappiertheywillbe.Onthecontrary,somepeoplethinkthatspiritualsatisfactionisthegreatesthappiness.Theydoeverythingforthepeople.Theylive,work,andsacrificetheirlifeforthepeople.

Inmyopinion,Ibelieve,one’svalueliesinthevalueofservingthepeople,thecountryandthewholesociety.Iamsurethosewhomakecontributions,bigorsmall,toourcountrywillberegardedasthehappiestpeople.Theyshouldberecognizedandrespected.Thepointiswhatyoucando,butnothowpeoplelookonyou.Itishowmuchyoucontribute,nothowmuchyougain.Ithinkthisisthetruemeaningoflifethateveryoneofusshouldhave.

3.MyViewonHonesty

Honestyisthelong-lastingvirtueofpeopleallovertheworld.Likewise,itisalsooneofthedeeply-heldvaluesoftheChinesepeople.Somepeoplebelievethatinthemarketeconomy,honestytendstobeobsolete.Inmyopinion,honestywillneverbeoutofdatenomatterwhatthesituationmightbe.

Firstly,honestyhasbeentreasuredandhonestpeoplehavebeenrespectedthroughouthistoryinallpartsoftheworld.Peopleeverywherewouldregardhonestyasavirtueandhateadishonestperson.Secondly,honestyisthebasisofinteractionsamongpeople.Peopleshouldtreateachothersincerelyandopentheirheartstoeachother.Onlyinthiswaycantherelationshipamongthepeoplebenatural.Thirdly,inthemarketeconomy,somepeopletrytogetmoremoneyatthecostofhonesty.Tothem,abestbusinessmanisonewhocancheatmosttactfully.Eveninthiskindofsociety,honestyisdeeplyvaluedbymostpeople.

Wecanseethatnotonlyinhistory,butalsoatthepresentday,honestywasandisvaluedbythemajorityofthepeopleandthevirtuewillnotperishsoeasily.

4.PreservingOurEnvironment

Manisslowlypollutinghisenvironment.Hedirtiestheairwithwastegases;hepoisonsthewaterwithchemicalwastes;hedamagesthesoilwithfertilizers.

Pollutiondoesgreatharmtoman.Asweknow,air,water,andsoilarenecessarytoman’ssurvival.Pollutedair,waterandsoilmakepeoplesickandevencausedeaths.Environmentalpollutionisbecomingoneofthemostseriousproblemsthatmankindfaces.

Nowit’shightimethatdrasticactionbetaken.Firstweshouldmakethepublicawareofthedangerscausedbypollution.Second,weshouldtakepollutioncontrolmeasurestoreducepollution.Third,weshouldkeepourpollutionundercontrol.Afterall,theearthisourhome.Wemusttakecareofitforourselvesandourdescendants.

5.ForeignInvestment

ThankstotheopenpolicyinChina,moreandmoreforeignbusinessmenhavecometoinvest,buildingnewfactories,minesandotherbusinessenterprises,orenlargingandimprovingoldones.Foreigninvestmentisimportantinthatitsupplementstheeconomyofourcountry.Ithastheadvantageofimportingforeigncapital,technology,talents,advancedequipmentandmethodsofmanagement.

Oursisacountryofvastterritory,aboundinginnaturalresourcesandlaborforce.Foreigninvestmentcanhelptoexploretheresourcesandmakeuseofthelaborforce,thusgivingourstrongpointstoplay.Inaword,foreigninvestmentmayimproveoureconomy.

Ofcourseforeigninvestmentisofmutualbenefit.Theforeignbusinessmencanalsoreapprofits,otherwisetheywouldnotcometoinvest.

Toattractmoreforeigninvestment,wemustmaintainthecountry’spoliticalstabilitytobringaboutagoodinvestmentenvironment.Meanwhileweshouldcarryoutsomegoodpolicies,whichmakestheforeignbusinessmenbelievethattoinvestinChinadoespay.

6．NoPains,NoGains

Itisobvioustoeverybodythattheonlywaytoachieveone’sgoalistoworkhard.Justastheoldsayinggoes“nomill,nomeal”.Haveyoueverseenamanwhosucceedsjustbyidlingabout?

Ofcourse,theansweris“No”.Soweknowifyouwanttogainsomething,youwillhavepains.

Thefarmersharvestbyayearofarduouswork;thescientistsgainachievementsbyyearsofdevotedresearches;studentsgetgoodmarksbyworkinghard;eventhelittleantshavetheirfoodbyworkingharddayandnight.Iknowtherearealwayssomepeoplewhowaitfortheopportunitiesfallingonthem.Theymayattributetheirfailurestolackofgoodchances.Therefore,therearesomanypeoplegainingnothingatlast.Clevermenknowthatthemoreefforttheymake,thebiggerchancetheywillhavetobesuccessful.

So,whenothersachievetheiraspirationsandyouwillgainnothing,don’tcomplainabouttheunfairfateanddon’tgiveup,either.Remember:

7.PracticeMakesPerfect

Thesayingthat“practicemakesperfect”meansthatafteryouhaveplentyofpracticeinwhatyouaredoing,youwillbeperfectinit.Hewhopracticesalotwillmastertheskillmorequicklythanhewhoseldomorhardlypractices.

Forexample,whenwelearnEnglish,wehavetolearngrammar,words,expressionsandsoon.Themostimportantthingmaybehowtoputwhatwehavelearnedintopractice.Ifyouonlylearnthegrammarrulesbyheartanddon’tdoenoughexercises,itiscertainthatyoucan’tunderstandthemperfectly.Butifyoupracticealot,maybeyouwillunderstandthemmoredeeplyandyoucanfindsomegoodmethodsofapplyingthem.MemorizingEnglishwordswhenevertimepermits,wecaneasilymemorizethemandcanevenfindawaytomemorizethemmorequickly.

Nowadaysmoreandmoreyoungpeopleprefertofollowthefashion.Onthisphenomenon,differentpeoplehavedifferentviews.Itisheldthatoneshouldfollowthefashionsoasnottobedespisedorconsideredeccentric.Butitisalsoheldthatoneshouldhaveone’sownjudgment.

Thosewhoholdthefirstopinionthinkthatsocietyisprogressingandoneshouldadaptoneselftotheconstantchange.Intheiropinion,ifeveryonealwaysstickstotheoldfashion,therewon’tbeanychangeandnaturallytherewon’tbeprogress.Incontrast,thosewhoholdthesecondviewthinkthatoneshouldn’tfollowthefashionwithoutdiscriminationandoneshouldhaveone’sownjudgmentandcharacteristics.

9.WhyDoWeLearnEnglish

Intheopentimes,ifyouwanttodobusinesswithforeigners,youmustlearnEnglishbecausemostofthemspeakandwriteinEnglish,Englishisoneoftheworkinglanguagesatinternationalmeetingstoday,mostofvaluablebooksarewritteninEnglish,ifyouknowmuchEnglish,youwillreadnewspapersandmagazinesinEnglishandlearnalotofknowledgeaboutinteractionbetter.Youalsocandowhatyoushoulddofortheworldpeace.
