SUMMARY

•DataResourceManagement.Dataresourcemanagementisamanagerialactivitythatappliesinformationtechnologyandsoftwaretoolstothetaskofmanaginganorganization’sdataresources.Earlyattemptstomanagedataresourcesusedafileprocessingapproachinwhichdatawereorganizedandaccessibleonlyinspecializedfilesofdatarecordsthatweredesignedforprocessingbyspecificbusinessapplicationprograms.Thisapproachprovedtoocumbersome,costly,andinflexibletosupplytheinformationneededtomanagemodernbusinessprocessesandorganizations.Thus,thedatabasemanagementapproachwasdevelopedtosolvetheproblemsoffileprocessingsystems.

•DatabaseManagement.Thedatabasemanagementapproachaffectsthestorageandprocessingofdata.Thedataneededbydifferentapplicationsareconsolidatedandintegratedintoseveralcommondatabasesinsteadofbeingstoredinmanyindependentdatafiles.Also,thedatabasemanagementapproachemphasizesupdatingandmaintainingcommondatabases,havingusers’applicationprogramssharethedatainthedatabase,andprovidingareportingandaninquiry/responsecapabilitysoenduserscaneasilyreceivereportsandquickresponsestorequestsforinformation.
