Glenmont.WebeginourjourneyontheRedLineatitseasternterminusatGlenmont.Thisundergroundstation,justnorthofWheaton,sitsbeneathLayhillRoad,justnorthofGeorgiaAvenue.ItfeaturesanislandplatformwithArchIIarchitecture.Thestationlightingisdifferenthere:
insteadoftheusualmercury-vaporlightsinthecrownsofthepylons,therearesodiumlamps,whichimpartareddishglowtothestation.Onthemezzanine,brightlampswithroundshadesaresuspendedbyrodsfromtheceiling,adeparturefromtheusual.Thestationisnotasdeepasthosefurtherdowntheline.Glenmontistheonlysuburbanstationterminalwhichislocatedunderground.Italsohasalargeparkinglotandgaragelocatedatstreetlevel,with1,781parkingspaces.GlenmontstationopenedJuly25,1998.
