GENERAL

poweredtofill.Apressuredifferentialofabout2bar(30psi)opens
thesolenoid.Itthenactsasacheckvalve,preventingflowbackout.
Thehighpressuresensorreadspressureneartheinlet,notinsidethe
tank.Athighfillrates,itreadshigherthanthepressureinthetank,
duetopressurelossesthroughthevalve.
Thetemperaturesensorreadsthetemperatureofthegasinsidethe

PRESSURERELIEFDEVICE(PRD)
ThevalveisequippedwithaPRD,toventthetankintheeventofafire.Whenthevalveisexposedto
excessiveheat,thePRDopensandventsthetankthroughtheventport.Modelsareavailablewitheither
103oC(217oF)or109oC(228oF).Modelnumbersendingin“0”,suchasTV-110are103oC,whereasthose
endingin“5”are109oC.The103oC(217oF)containscadmium,whichisbeingphasedout,whiletheotherdoes
not.IMPCOTechnologiessuggeststhatthenon-cadmiumversionbeusedunlessthereisalegacyreasonto
dootherwise.
ThePRDispermanentlyconnectedtotheinteriorofthevalve.Becauseofthis,itcannotbeintentionallyor
unintentionallyshutoff.
ThePRDiscapableofflowingabout200gramspersecondofhydrogen,althoughactualflowrateswillvary.
Theventlineshouldbesizedtoadequatelyhandlethisflow,andtoguideitsafelyaway.Thelinemustalsobeprotectedfromintrusionofwaterorothercontamination.
MANUALLOCKDOWN
Thevalveincludesamanuallockdownforservicework,whichshutsoff
allflowintoandoutofthetank.Thelockdownisa1/4hexlocatedon
thefaceofthevalve(seepage2fordiagram).Itisnormallyturned
counterclockwisetothefullyopenposition.Byturningitclockwiseto
5.4Nm[4ft-lbs],theonlyflowpathintoandoutofthevalve(exceptthe
PRD)isclosed.Openingthesolenoidwillhavenoeffect.
Whenanyworkisdoneonthevalveorrelatedlines,engagethemanual
lockdown.Ifanyleaksaredetectedinthesystem,engagethemanual
lockdown.
Aseparatetoolisavailabletomanuallyforcethesolenoidtoopen.Thisisonlytobedonewhenthesolenoid
hasfailedandisnotcapableofopeningunderpower.Oncethefailureofthesolenoidisconfirmed,thelines
intoandoutofthevalveneedtobeemptied.Thebuilt-inmanuallockdownisremoved,andreplacedwiththe
manualoverridetool(seetheSpecialToolssection).Thishasthesameeffectasactivatingthesolenoid.This
shouldonlybedoneifthesolenoidcannotbeopenednormally,asitcandamagethevalve.
TManualOverrideToolProcedures”-Themanualoverridetoolshouldbeusedinaccordancewiththe“06396(Document#GFIP258)suppliedwiththeoverridetool,oravailablefromIMPCOTechnologies.
Useofthemanualoverridetoolwilldamagethesolenoidpistonsealandthevalvemustbe
replaced.ReturnthedamagedvalvetoIMPCOTechnologies.
