UseamoreprecisecoverageandinterferencemodelthantheFCCPart73coveragecurvesortheITU-RRecommendationP.1546fordeploymentplanningofWRANsystems.

3.1.1Characteristics

UseacoverageandinterferencepredictionmodelfortheplanningofaWRANservicethatincorporatesatleastthefollowing:

∙Point-to-pointpropagationmodel.

∙Desiredtoundesiredprotectionratios(D/U)forthevariouschannelrelationshipsconsideredshouldbeselectedfromascientificreferencethatprovidesresultsfromanalysisexaminingthespecificmodulationsusedbyboththedesiredandundesiredsignals.

∙Transmittingandreceiveantennapatterncharacteristicsfortheincumbent,BS,andCPEs.

∙HeightofthetransmittingantennaAboveGroundLevel(AGL).

∙30meterterraindata.

∙Populationfromcurrentcensusdata.

∙K-factorandotheratmosphericeffectsonsignalfading.

∙Groundcover(wetlands,desert,tropical,etc)

∙Groundclutter(trees,urbanbuildings,etc).

∙Longtermfadingeffects,suchasthosedescribedinEnvironmentalScienceServicesAdministration(ESSA)TechnicalReportESSAResearchLaboratories79-InstituteforTelecommunicationSciences67.

Usethefollowingstatisticalinformationwhenperformingacoverageandinterferencepredictionanalysis:

∙802.22coveragesimulationsshoulduse99.9%timeavailability.

∙Digitaltelevision(DTV)interferenceanalysisshoulduse90%and10%fortimeavailabilityfordesiredandundesiredsignals,respectivelyand50%forlocationavailability.

∙Analoginterferenceanalysisdesiredandundesiredsignalsuse50%and10%,respectivelyfortimeavailabilityand50%forlocationavailability.

3.2.SelectionofDeploymentLocation

Recommendation3-2-1

LocateWRANdevicesoutsidethekeep-outdistancethatisbeyondco-andadjacentchannelprotectedcontoursofTVstationsthatisspecifiedbythelocalregulations.

CollectspecificdatathatwouldinfluenceRFpropagation,includingthedifferenceinheightbetweentransmitterandreceiver,terrain,groundcover,andatmosphericcharacteristicsforthedeploymentareaofinterest.

LocateaWRANdeviceata16mminimumdistancefromtheclosestTVreceivertoavoidcausingtabooandthird-orderintermodulationinterferencewhileoperatingonsecondadjacentchannelrelationshipsandbeyondinsidetheprotectedcontour.

Inthecaseoftheadjacentchannel,theWRANinterferenceintoDTVreceptionmightbetheconstrainingcase.TheminimumdistanceneededtopreventDTVinterferenceintotheWRANservicemaybelessthanthedistancetotheprotectedcontourdependingontherelativeselectivityoftheWRANreceiver.Table12(missingtable)alsoindicatesthatCPEsandBSsoperatingonN+/-2andbeyondthatarelocatedtooclosetoaTVtransmittermaysufferdesensitizationfromtheout-of-bandemissionsfromtheTVtransmissions.Again,theWRANsystemplannermaydecidetoreducetheextentofhisWRANcoverageandallowhisreceiverstosuffermorethatthe1dBdesensitization.TheBSandCPEscouldthenbelocatedcloserthantheminimumdistancesgiveninTable12(missingtable).Itislikely,however,thatconsideringtheextentoftheout-of-bandrejectionoftheDTVtransmitterinthesealternatechannels,theWRANreceiverswillbesaturatedlongbeforethisdesensitizationduetotheDTVout-of-bandsignaltakeplace.[somemorecalculationsneededhere.]

KeeptheWRANpowerlevelattheinputoftheTVreceiverbelowthesaturationleveloftheTVreceiver.

AvoidachannelthatisoccupiedbyPart74operation,belocatedbeyondaradiusof4kmfromthePart74receiver,orreducethemaximumTPClimitaccordingtothefollowingequation:

12.Installation

AftertheWRANsystemplannercompletesthesuggesteddeploymentprocessdescribedaboveinSection7,theprofessionalinstallershouldfollowthesuggestionsprovidedinthissectionforaproperinstallation.ThissectionalsodescribesthecharacteristicsoftheWRANsystemdevicesthatshouldbeinstalled.The802.22standardwasdesignedwhileassumingtheWRANsystemcharacteristicsprovidedinthissection.
