Nowadays,withtherapiddevelopmentoftourismindustry,ithasbecomepopularforquitesomepeopletotravelatvacationafteralongperiodofheavyloadofworking.Theycometosomehistoricalsitestorelaxthemselves.Atthesametime,holidayisthebusiesttraveltimesoftheyear.Generallyspeaking,thefamousChinesesitesofhistoricalinterestwillchargehigherfeesduringthetime.Recently,acontroversialviewpointtowardshistoricsites'higherchargethatwhethersuchactionwillhurtcitizen'ssentiment.Myopinionisthatit'sworthcharginghigherfees.

Firstofall,Ifirmlybelievethatitisnecessarytochargehigherfees.Peoplecouldunderstandthemeaningoflifeandthepermanentvaluefromthesemeasures,thentheywillchangetheirthinkingstyleofstudyandwork.Historicalsitesletpeoplerealizedeathisnotfarawayandweshouldnotwasteourlife.

Moreover,whenparentstaketheirchildrentothehistoricinterest,thechildrencanlearnknowledgeofhistoryratherthanjustplayingthere.Atthesametimetheyreceiveeducation.Infact,IthinkitismeaningfultogotoChinesesitesofhistoricalinterestthantotheplayground.

  China’sStateAdministrationofRadioFilmandTelevision(SARFT)recentlyissuedanoticebanningdomesticradioandTVstationsfromtranslatingforeignradioandTVprogrammesintoanylocaldialect.ThenoticesaidthatsuchdialecttranslationcontradictsthenationalinitiativetopromotePutonghua,orMandarin,aroundthecountry.Foreignprogrammesthathavebeentranslatedintodialectsmustberemovedfromtelevisionandradioimmediately.Thenoticeevokedamixedresponsefromexpertsandaudioandvideoproducers,aswellasthegeneralpublic.Manyvoicedtheirconcernsthatlocaldialectswouldbeforniddeninpublicplaces.Mandarian,whichmeans"commonlanguage",isthecountry’spredominantlanguageandiswidelyusedbymorethan70percentofthepopulation.However,localdialectsstillenjoypopularityforrelativelyless-educatedpeopleinsomeoccasions.Thedialectsdomakeuniqueroleandshouldbetoleratedforexistenceinpublicplaces.

  Thoughpromotedwidelyinpublicplaces,dialectsareacceptableinpublicplaces.First,itismorethanameretoolforcommunication.Itis,mostimportantly,themessengerofitsrespectiveculture.Ifthedialectwaseliminatedfromdailyuse,theculturewillbebroken.Second,Mandariancanabsorbtheelitepartoflocaldialecttoenrichitsvocabularyandusage.ThisistheperfectionofMandartianfromthousandsofyearsblendandcontact.Thedialectscanalsobepopularinthepublic.AlongwiththefamousshortplaybycomicactorsinNEChina,thelocaldialectcameintothespotlight,andenjoyedmorepopularitythroughoutChina.Suchaculturalphenomenonrepresentstheaudienceanattitudetolocaldialectswhichcatertothetasteofthemajority.Third,dialectistheonlymeanofcommunicationtosomeundereducatedlocalpeople.Iflocaldialectsareforbiddeninthepublicplaces,theycannotcommunicate.

  Tosumup,localdialectsshouldbetoleratedinpublicplacesforitsuniquerolewhichMandariancannotsubstitute.Weshouldguarteeitssurvivalbecausedialectsstandforourspiritualland.Fromalong-termperspective,dialectsshouldnotandwouldnotbewipedout.Thereisnoneedforanypurposefulanddeliberateattempttoprotectdialects.Justletdialectstaketheirnaturalcourse.Thebestwaytoprotectadialectistouseitindailylifeandpassitdownfromgenerationtogeneration.

WhatIHaveLearnedFromMyYearsatUniversity

      Thedevelopmentofanindividualhumanexistencecanbedividedintoseveralimportantstages.Butnoperiodcanbemoreinfluentialuponthelatercourseofourlifethantheyearswehaveexperiencedincollege.Hereisthecradleofintelligentsiawithvision,missionandpassion.Andnow,asIamreadytoleavecampusandfacetherealworld,Idaresaythatnootherplacecanteachmemore.

       IamveryproudthatinuniversityIhavelearnthowimportantitisforonetohavevision,thatabilitytoseeaheadoftimeand possiblyothers.Collegehasraisedmeup,sothatIcouldenjoyabroaderviewoftheworld.UniversityLibrary,thesanctuaryofmindalwayskeepsmeinaclosetouchwiththegreatthoughtsofgiants,Shakespeare,Russell,Churchill,Roosevelt,tonameonlyafew.All theseoverwhelminglyfamousnameshaveturnedfamiliarandfriendly here.Thesegreatmindsteachmehowtoliveameaningfullife.Theywarnmethatthelastbutgreatestenemyformankindishumanexistenceitself.Theirwordsofwisdomshallguideandguardmetoovercomealltheobstaclesbesetinthecourseofmylife.Inthelightofthisstatement,Ihavetosaythatcollegeyearshavebrightenedupmyvision.

       ItisatuniversitythatIhaveacquiredanaddedunderstandingofthemeaningofmissioni.e.manshouldhaveshouldersstrongenoughtotakemoreresponsibilitiesofthetime.Collegehasenrichedme,sothatI,tosomeextent,havediscoveredthetruthtoliveby. WhenIwasasophomore,IwaschosenavolunteerfortheRedCrossInstitution.Myjob,then,wastoassistthedoctorwiththebloodcollectinginablooddonationcaronthestreet.Thosedaysbestowedmewithamovingbutalittlebitsingularpicture,inwhichthepainfulinjectionandheartysmileareperfectlyandbeautifullycombined.Everyparcelofbloodmeansapieceofhope,throughwhichIseethatthepossessionoflifeliesinsharing.Thisishowcollegeyearshavedefinedmymission.

        ItisaftersomeyearsatuniversitythatIhavebetterapprehendedToynbeewhenhesaid,“Glorybelongstothosewhoareactuallyinthearena,fightingpassionatelywhilstshowingeverynowandthenmistakesorshortcomings.”Ihaveunderstoodthespiritoftranscendingmyself,sometimeseveninacrazyway.Ifyouthisthefreshnessofthedeepspringsoflife,thencollegemustbethefountainofpassion.Itcheersinthechaosofgym;ithidesinthesilenceoflab.Duringthecollegeyears,Ineverstoppedpursuingmyowndream,becauseIneverfailtobeinspiredbytheflowingcurrentofyoungpassion.

         LawrenceH.Summers,formerPresidentofHarvardsaidinhisfarewellspeech,“Collegegraduates,capableofdeepreflectionsarewhattheworldneeds.”Livinginaworldofmaddingcrowd,agroup,orevenasmallgroupofpeopleareexpectedtoremaintranscendentalandsober.Ifanycanliveuptosohighastandardofexistence,collegegraduatescan.AndIamfortunateinbeingamongthematthismomentandhavingsparedlittletimecultivatingmyvision,missionandpassioninthepastfouryears.Withthese,Ihavebettercouragetochangemyselfandmostprobablybetterpreparationformyfuture.

NotaBarrierforFriendship

WiththedevelopmentofmarketeconomyinChinaarisetheincomegapsbetweenpeopleworkingindifferentfields:

someearngoodmoney;somemakeendsmeet;someothersliveonnarrowmeans.Ontopofmanysocialproblemsthisfinancialdisparitymaycausethereisaclaimthatitaffectsfriendship.Theassumptionseemsreasonablebutwemayfinditdoesnotreallyholdwaterbytakingacloselookintothesubject.

Firstofalltrueandlastingfriendshipisbuiltoncommonvaluespursuitsorhobbiesratherthansimilarincomes.Friendsarethosewhoagreewithyourlifeviewsandsticktothesomeprinciplesthosewhoencourageyouwhenyoulackconfidenceinmeetingchallengesandpursuingyourdreamorthosewhoshareyourinterestsandappreciateyourtastes.Indeedwhatstrengthenstheseemotionalbondsbetweenyouandyourpalsisnotthesameamountofwealthbutspiritualcommonalities.Ofcoursewithsimilarfinancialbackgroundsyouwillprobableknowbetterabouteachother'slifestylebutthedifferenceinthisaspectwillnotmatterifyouaremutuallyappreciatedneededandtrusted.ThefriendshipbetweenMarxandEngels--thetwoGermanrevolutionists--isacaseinpoint.Theformerwasoftenindebtwhilethelatterwaswell-off;yetthesamesocialistdreamdrewthemtogetherandmadethemforeverfriends.
