Overview

WindowsEasyTransferguidesyouthroughtheprocessoftransferringfilesandsettingsfromoneWindowscomputertoanother.UsingWindowsEasyTransfer,youcanchoosewhattotransfertoyournewcomputerandhowtotransferit.

Note:

WindowsEasyTransferisalsoavailablefromtheWindowsVistaDVDandtheWindowsVistaWelcomeCenter.

NotethatWindowsEasyTransferdoesnotattempttomoveapplicationsprogramfiles,onlydataandapplicationsettings.ApplicationsneedtobereinstalledonthenewPC,anditisrecommendedthatyoureinstalltheapplicationpriortorunningWindowsEasyTransferonthenewPC.WindowsEasyTransferasowon’tattempttotransferanysystemfiles,suchasfontsanddrivers,eveniftheuserhasupdatedtheirdriversorinstalledcustomfonts.

BurningtoCDorDVD

WindowsVistaincludesnativesupportforafilesystemcalledUDF.UDF-formattedCD-R,CD-RW,DVD-RandDVD-RWdiscssupportdraganddropcopy,similartothebehaviorofafloppydisk.

ForWindowsEasyTransfer,utilizingUDFmeansthereisnoneedforstaginganimagebeforeburning,asisdonewithISOformatdiscs.IfaCD/DVDisinsertedandisunformatted,WindowsEasyTransferformatsthediscasUDFautomatically.IfaCDorDVDwithanexistingnon-UDFformatisinserted,WindowsEasyTransferwillrejectthediscandrequestanunformattedorUDF-formatteddisc.

WindowsEasyTransferspecifiesCD-RWandDVD-RWmediaasthesupportedformat.

BurningonpreviousversionsofWindows

TheMigrationWizardsupportsburningtoCDonWindowsXP.Thedataisstaged,andthemaximumamountofroomavailableonthemediaused.Ifadditionalmediaisrequiredyouarepromptedtocontinuetoinsertadditionalmediauntilallthedatabeingmigratedisstored.

BurningonversionsofWindowspriortoWindowsXPisnotsupportedduetothefactthattheydidnotprovidenativesupportforCDburning.

NetworkTransfer

WindowsEasyTransfercanalsomigratedataoveranetworkconnection.AnywiredorwirelessnetworkwithTCP/IPconnectivitybetweencomputersshouldwork.Transferspeedacrossthesenetworksislimitedbythebandwidthoftheunderlyingnetworkmediumaswellasthecapabilitiesofeachcomputer.

Whenperforminganetworktransfer,WindowsEasyTransfercreatesadatastoreonthedestinationcomputer.EasyTransfercanthenberunonthedestinationcomputertoapplythesettings.

Resolution

●IfthiserrorappearedwhenusingaUSBflashdevice,youwillneedtoreplacethedevicewithasupporteddevice.

●IfthiserrorappearedwhenusingawritableCDorDVD,thenthemedialikelyhasaproblemorisincompatiblewiththesystem.Inthiscase,youwillneedtotrydifferentmedia

●ProblemswithfaultyorunsupportedCDorDVDdiscscanalsodisplaythiserror
