Withcollegegraduationlessthanamonthaway,thetopiconmanystudents’mindsisthejobmarket.

Thegoodnewsfortheclassof1996isthathiringisupslightlyforthethirdstraightyearandsoaresalaries.Butintoday’sleanandmeancorporationculture,wherethepushistodomorewithless,employersstillhavetheupperhand.Theproofisinseveraltrendsemergingonthehiringlandscape:

Employersaremoreseriouslyscrutinizingtheskillsofnewgrads.

Internshipsareoftenaprerequisitetolandinganinterview.

Somefirmsarestartingtohiregraduatesonacontractbasis.
