CharlesBlackmanisfamousforhisbeautifulpaintingofdreams.In1956,heheardforthefirsttimeLewisCarroll’sextraordinarytaleofAliceinWonderland—thestoryofaVictoriangirlwhofallsdownarabbithole,meetsalotoffunnycharactersandexperiencesallkindsofthings.Atthattime,Blackman’swifewassufferingfromprogressiveblindness.ThestoryofAlicemovingthroughthestrangesituations,oftendisheartenedbyvariousevents,wassimilartohiswife’sexperiences.Italsoreflectedsomuchofhisownlife.AllthiscontributedtothecompletionoftheAliceinWonderlandpaintings.
