OxfordandCambridge–twouniversitiessosimilarthattheyareoftenspokenoftogetheras“Oxbridge‖.They’rebothintheUK,fairlynearLondon,andbothregularlycometopinanyrankingoftheworld’sbestuniversities.

Thetwouniversitiesbeganwithinacenturyofeachother.OxfordUniversity,now900yearsold,wasfoundedtowardstheendofthe11thcentury.In1209therewasadisputebetweentheuniversityandthetownspeopleofOxford.Asaresult,someoftheOxfordteachersleftandfoundedauniversityinthetownofCambridge,some84milesaway.Eversincethen,thetwoinstitutionshavebeenverycompetitive.

Unlikemostmodernuniversities,bothOxfordandCambridgeconsistofalargenumberofcolleges.Oxfordhas39andCambridge31.Manyofthesecollegeshaveoldandverybeautifularchitecture,andlargenumbersoftouristsvisitthem.
