InSeptember2015,however,thePeoplefortheEthicalTreatmentofAnimals(PETA)consideredthemonkeyitcallsNarutoasthecopyrightownerofthephotos.Throughhis“friends”atPETA,Narutowassuing(控诉)thephotographerandthepublishingcompanyBlurbforcopyright:

“ThephotosresultedfromthepurposefulactionsofNarutoandwerenothelpedbySlater,resultinginworksofauthorship…byNaruto.”

“IfahumanhadtakenaphotowithSlater’scamera,thatpersonwouldownthecopyrighttothephoto,”saysJeffKerro£PETA.“Narutoshouldbetreatednodifferently.” 

ThelawyerforSlaterandBlurb,AndrewDhuey,requiredthatthecasebedismissed(被驳回)inNovember2015.Dhueymentioneda2004caseinwhichthecourthadtodecidewhetherwhalescouldsuetheUSNavyforthedangerthey’dreceivedfrommachinesusedbytheNavy.Thecourtruledthattheycouldnot.
