1.1.2.2SubgradeExcavation

1)Excavationofunsuitablematerialsandetc.

Usingexcavator,loaderanddumptrucksforremovingunsuitablematerialswhichwillbedisposedatplacedesignatedbytheEmployer.

2)Excavationworks

Excavationwillbecarriedoutsectionbysection.

Thecommonexcavationshallbeperformedbyexcavator,loaderanddumptruck.Asforrockexcavation,acrawlermounteddrillingmachinewithaircompressorwillbeemployedforshallowholeblastingoperationtosplitandloosetherock,theexcavatedmaterialswillberemovedanddisposedbydumptruck.

Theprocessflowofcommonexcavationisasfollows:

Demarcatingtheexcavationlineaftersurvey→originalgroundclearance→mobilizingequipmentintoposition→excavationanddisposal

Theprocessingsequenceofrockexcavationbyblastingoperation:

Surfaceclearance→drillingmachineinposition→drillingbydrillingmachine→chargingthehole→blasting→inspectionandclearance

Sincetherockexcavationoftheprojectis22143m3involume,someexperiencedandcompetentexpertswillbeassignedforconductingandsupervisingtheentireblastingoperation,soastoensurethesafetyandefficiency.

1.1.2.3SubgradeFilling

1)EarthFillingworks

Fillinginhorizontallayersandcompactioninlayersshallbeusedinconstruction.Thethicknessofeachloosefillinglayer.Fillingmaterialshallbedeliveredtothesiteby16m3dumptrucksandleveledfirstlybybulldozersandthenbygraderforpreciselevelingafteritisfilledinfillingarea,andthenrolledwithvibrationandstaticcompactionbyusingsingle-drumvibratoryroadrollersandstaticrollersrespectively.Smallcompactorshallbeusedwhererollercannoreach.

Duringconstruction,thicknessforeachlayer,leveling,watercontent,andcompactionscopeandnumberofcompactionshallbecontrolledstrictly.OnlywhenthepreviousworkisapprovedandacceptedbytheEngineerafterinspection,thenfillingofnextlayercanbemade.Pileupfillingbydumptruckoroverfillingisnotallowed.Thespoilisrequiredtobeleveledandcompactedtopreventenvironmentalcontamination.

Theconstructionworksshallbeproperlyarrangedtakingdueaccountofrainyseason,soastoavoidworkinginrainydays.

2)RockFilling

Rockfillshallbeusedforfillinginsoftgroundareas,asforculvertsandwallbackfilling,rockfillingmaterialtobeusedshallbeselected.Siltandsoftmaterialswillberemovedbeforefilling.

Constructionmethodoffillingandcompactinginlayersshallbeadoptedforrocksubgrade.Thicknessoffillingandcompactionforeachlayershallbecontrolledwithin250mm.

Flow-chartforrockfillingofsubgrade:

Constructionmethod:

Excavatorsanddumptrucksshallbeusedforloadingandtransportation,bulldozersinlargehorsepowershallbeusedforlevelingandgrading,jointfillingbymanuallabor,andsingle-drumvibratingrollersandsteelrollersshallbeusedforcompaction.

2.2ConstructionMethodforCementstabilizedNaturalGravelSubbaseCourse

1)Constructionplan

Mixtureusedforcementstabilizednaturalgravelsub-baseinthicknessof250mmshallbemixedatmixingplant,andpaverwillbeusedforsubbaselayinginoneoperation.Tocoverthefullwidth,pavingshallbeperformedbypaverintwotimes.Andcompactionshallbedoneusingavibratingrollerandatyredroller,theworkmanshipofshoulderwithsubbasematerialisassameasthatforcementstabilizednaturalgravelsubbase.

3)Controlonmajorworkmanship

(i)Preparations

Theacceptanceinspectiononsubgradeshallbecarriedoutinaccordancewiththespecificationsandrelatedqualityacceptancestandards,thelevelness,width,transversegradeandcompactnessandwatercontentshallmeettherequirementsofspecifications.Surfaceshallbefreeofdustanddebris,anditshallbekeptwetbywateringbeforeconstruction.

(ii)Settingout

Theroadcenterlineshallbereinstated.Stakesshallbesetupat10mintervalsonstraightsectionsandat5mintervalsincurves,andreferencestakesshallbesetup,too.Levelsurveyshallbecarriedoutforlevelcontrol.

(iii)MaterialsPreparations

ComponentmaterialsshallbepreparedasperthemixdesignapprovedbytheEngineerpriortoconstruction,andwhichcannotbechangedwithoutapprovalbytheEngineer,soastokeepstability.

(iv)Mixing

Thecomponentmaterialsofcementstabilizedgravelforsub-baseshallbemixedatmixingplants.ThemixingwillnotstartuntilthemixproportionsatisfythedesignrequirementandapprovedbytheEngineer.Aspecificpersonwillbeassignedforcontrollingthecementandwaterproportioningduringmixingoperation.Thereadymixedmixturemustberightinbatching,wellmixed,thegrainsizeofaggregateandgradingrangeshallmeetthemixingdesign.

(v)Transportation

Dumptrucksshallbeusedfortransporting.Haulagecapacitymustmatchwithmixingcapacity.Inordertoensureacontinuoussupply,moredumptrucksshallbedeployedforthistask.

(vi)Paving

Apaverwithanautolevelingdeviceandvibratingcompactionfunctionshallbeemployedforthejob.Loosecoefficientshallbeobtainedfromtrialsectionandspeedofpavingshallbecontrolledinconformitywithrateofmixingandsupplyofthestabilizedgravel.Thesegregationofthemixtureifanyafterpavingwillbedealtwithbymanuallabor.

(vii)Compaction

Thecompactionplanshallbeworkedoutaccordingtothewidthoftheroadandwidthandrangeoftheroller’swheels.Compactionshallbemadeundertheprincipleofbeginningwithlightcompactionfollowedbyheavycompaction,beingslowatstartandspeedingupgradually,andstartingatthelowestplacesbeforecompactionathigherplaces,andthecompactionshalloverlapwith1/2wheelwidthoverthepreviouscompactionrut.Therearwheelofrollershallrolloverthejointbetweentwostrips.Surfaceshallbekeptwetallthetime,onwhichwatershallbesprayedifwaterisvaporizedtoofast.Itisnotallowablethattherollerturnsaroundsharplyorbrakessuddenlyoncompletedsectionsorsectionswhichisbeingcompacted.Thecompactnessshallbecheckedpromptlyaftercompaction.Additionalcompactionshallbeperformedshouldthecompactnessisfoundinsufficient.Thetimeforcompactionshallbecontrolledtakingdueaccountthenatureofcementstabilizedmacadam,thecompactionshallbecarriedoutbeforethefinalsetofcementandthecompactnessshallbemetwithoutremainingobviousruts.

(viii)JointTreatment

Immediatelyafterpavingandcompaction,alevelingrulershallbeusedtocheckthesmoothnessofthesurface.Straightandverticaltransversejointsshallbecutmanuallyandsomematerialsshallbeplacedoverthecutjointforthepurposeoftrafficpassing,andothersurplusshallbeclearedaway.Longitudinaljointsshallbeavoidedasmuchaspossible.Incasealongitudinaljointisnotavoidable,itshallbecutstraightandvertically.

(ix)Trafficcontrol

Aftercompactionofsubbasewhichmeetvariousindexupontestandinspection,notrafficotherthanconstructionequipmentshallbeallowedtorunover.

4)Measuresforensuringthequalityofsub-base

(i)ThepreparationofrawmaterialsshallbecarriedoutstrictlyinaccordancewithspecificationsandasinstructedbytheEngineer,andproportionofmaterialsshallbewellcontrolled.

(ii)IncompliancewiththespecificationsandtheinstructionsbytheEngineer,andself-inspectionshallbemadebythecontractor.

(iii)WorksshallbecarriedoutinatrialsectionwiththemethodapprovedbytheEngineerpriortopracticalconstruction,whichwillbeconductedwiththeloosepavingfactor,optimumwatercontent,thearrangementofequipmentandmeansofconstructiongainedfromthepracticeinthetrialsection.

(iv)Thesurfaceshallbecleanedfreeofdustanddebrisbeforeconstruction,anditshallbekeptmoistbywatering.However,theworksshallbestoppedifitrains.

(v)Specificpersonshallbeassignedatthemixingplantforcontrollingandmonitoringproportionofcementandwatercontentsothatabnormityshallbeadjustedpromptlyifitoccurs.

(vi)Pavingthicknessshallbewellcontrolledandcompactionmustbemadefully,soastoensurethatcompactionthicknessmeetsrequirementsofspecifications.Thecompactedareashallbecoveredwithgeotextileaftercompaction.

(vii)Inspectionshallbeperformedonlevelness.
