ComputerMouse

wehavetostartatthebottom，sothinkupsidedownfornow．Itallstartswiththemouseball．Asmemouseballinthebottomofthemouserollsoverthemousepad,itpressesagainstandturnstwoshafts．Theshaftsareconnectedtowheelswithseveralsmallholesinthem．Thewheelshaveapairofsmallelectroniclight—emittingdevicescalledlight—emittingdiodes（LED）mountedoneitherside．OneLEDsendsalightbeamtotheLEDontheotherside.Asthewheelsspinandaholerotatesby,thelightbeamgetsthroughtotheLEDontheotherside.Butamomentlaterthelightbeamisblockeduntilthenextholeisinplace．TheLEDdetectachangingpatternoffight，convertsthepatternintoanelectronicsignal，andsendsthesignaltothecomputerthroughwiresinacablethatgoesoutofthemousebody．Thiscableisthetailthathelpsgivethemouseitsname．ThecomputerinterpretsthesignaltotellitwheretopositiontheCursoronthecomputerscreen．
