Abstract

D.H.Lawrenceisoneofthemostprominentwritersof20thcentury.ManyofD.H.Lawrence’sworksdealwithissuesofthedualisticbalancesbetweenhumanbeingsanddifferentcivilizations,menandnature.Generally,theacademictopicsconcerningLawrence’sworkscanbecategorizedasmainlytwoaspects;thematically,Lawrence’sattitudetowardsthesedualisticbalances,andtheopposite,unbalancesexistinginmodernsocietywasdiscussedinperspectiveslikehistoricalbackground,Marxism,feminism;stylistically,thecriticsweremainlyconcernedaboutthenarrativetechniquesliketheuseofimages,symbolsandmotifsandsomeothertechniqueswhichlabeledLawrenceasamodernistwriter.TherearefewofthecriticalessaysorbooksthathaveanalyzedindetailthecolorsinLawrence’sfictions,thoughthechromatictermsareprevailinginnearlyeverypieceofhisworks.What’smore,thereareevenfewerbooksoressaystalkingaboutthedeepmeaningandthereasonsofthechromatictermsinLawrence’sfictions.

ThethesisbasedontheshortstorySonsandLovers,choosestheangleofthecolorusageinit.ItisoneofLawrence’sskillsthatlargenumbersofchromatictermsareusedinworks.Thisthesismainlyfocusesonthefunctionsofthesymbolismofcolorsinthenovel.Theusageofcolorshighlightsthecharacters,rendersthebackground,complementscharacters’emotion,andperfectsthelanguageofthenovel.ItisexpectedthatthisthesiscanhelpreadersinunderstandingtheworkbetterthroughresearchingthechromatictermsinSonsandLovers.

摘要

D.H.劳伦斯是二十世纪最有成就的作家之一，其相当一部分作品是探讨关于人与人之间，不同的民族和文明，人与自然之间等二元对立因素的平衡。

迄今为止，关于劳伦斯作品的学术讨论大体围绕两个方面：

主题思想上，学术界主要是从历史背景、马克思主义、女性主义等方面讨论劳伦斯对现代社会中所存在的各种二元对立因素的平衡以及非平衡状态的态度；文体特点上，评论家主要关注意象、象征、恋母情节等赋予劳伦斯作品现代特征的叙述技巧的使用。

色彩词汇遍布于劳伦斯作品中，这方面的研究相对来说只是凤毛麟角。

而提及劳伦斯如此大量的运用色彩所达到的效果，以及此种用法的原因就更少了。

本论文特选取其著名短篇小说《儿子与情人》为范本，从其中色彩词汇入手，研究劳伦斯作品中色彩象征意义。

劳伦斯大量色彩词汇的运用是其写作特色之一。

小说中色彩的象征手法是本文的主要研究方面。

色彩词汇的运用突出了小说中的人物性格，渲染了小说的背景，补充了人物的情感，完善了小说的语言。

D.H.Lawrenceisoneofthemostuniqueandcontroversialwritersin20thcentury.Hehadwritten12longnovels,7novellas,47shortstories,12anthologies,7plays,4travels,andmanyothermagnificentworks.Believingthatthetruthcouldonlybeperceivedthroughsenses,D.H.Lawrencestrenuouslyworkedondescribingtheappearanceofpeopleandnaturalscenesinhisworks.Amongallthosedescriptions,colorsarefrequentlyused,yetthecolorsfollowcertainpatterns.Thecolortermsnotonlyreflectedthenarrativestrategies,butalsoachievedcertaineffectsinreaders.D.H.Lawrenceevokedanevolutionofsymbolism,whichhasgreatimpactonthelaterwriters.Heisreallyaskillfulnovelist.

Whitemeanspurity,simplicity,youth.Inthisnovel,whiteisalwaysconnectedwiththemoon.Themoonshinesintheskyatnight,anditgivespeoplesomeguidanceinthedarkness.

Blackisthesymbolofpower,fear,unknownthings.Inthisfiction,blackhastwodifferentmeanings:
