Whatkindoffisharethey?

FishandchipshasalwaysbeenafavoritedishinBritain,butastheoceanshavebeenoverfished,fishhasbecomemoreandmoreexpensive.SoitcomesasasurprisetolearnthatgiantfishareterrifyingthediversonNorthSeaoilrigs.Oilrigshavetoberepairedfrequentlyanddivers,whooftenhavetoworkindarknessahundredfeetunderwater,havebeenfrightenedoutoftheirwitsbygiantfishbumpingintothemastheywork.Nowtheyhavehadspecialcagesmadetoprotectthemfromthesemonsters.Thefisharenotsharksorkillerwhales,butfavouriteeatingvarietieslikecodandskatewhichgrowtounnaturalsizes,sometimesasmuchastwelvefeetinlength.Threefactorshavecausedthesefishtogrowsolarge:

thewarmwaterroundthehotoilpipesunderthesea;theplentifulsupplyoffoodthrownoverboardbythecrewsontherigs;thetotalabsenceoffishingboatsaroundtheoilrigs.Asaresult,thefishjusteatandeatandgrowandgrowinthelovelywarmwater.Whoeatswho?

三．課文講解：

★FishandchipshasalwaysbeenafavoritedishinBritain,butastheoceanshavebeenoverfished,fishhasbecomemoreandmoreexpensive.

油煎鱼加炸土豆片一直是英国人喜爱的一道菜，但是随着海洋里的滥捕滥捞，鱼已经变得越来越昂贵。

※　fishandchips油煎鱼加炸土豆片，因果的一種家常菜，被看做是一盤菜，因此用單數動詞；而JaneandKeithhavealwaysbeengoodfriendsofours　謂語動詞為havebeen.

用and　相連的名詞看成一個整體時，謂語動詞用單數形式；如果把他們看成分開的部分，動詞就用複數形式；如上句。
